We came across this restaurant quit by accident while travelling around Belgium...They were so welcoming and despite the fact we couldn't read the menu for which they apologised not having one in English..they then took the time to explain everything...we had a lovely warm soup type apitizer followed by shrimp croquettes which we shared and then my husband Nigel had the pork shank while I had a beef steak..everything was cooked and presented very well....the atmosphere was charming, modern and wonderfully clean.. I can't praise the restaurant or the owners enough and would definitely recomend you visit when your in the area.... x

Excellent food and atmosphere. Nice and quiet surrounding with good and speedy service. The owner is the kitchen chef so that tells you he is destined for quality.

Great place. We found it by when walking through the main shopping street of Sluis. We saw a sign directing us into a little side street. This one of those places you come across by accident. We were amazed by the ambiance, the very nice service and above all, the superb food the serveand all at a very reasonable price.A place to remember for a second visit in the near future.

During our trip to Bruges, we stayed in a hotel in Sluis, and decided to have our last evening meal in Sluis itself, so we could walk back to the hotel.De Frietstal is a misleading name. You would expect a snackbar ("fries shack") but it is a regular restaurant. When we went there in March 2014 we made a reservation in advance - totally unnecessary. Out of roughly 30 tables, only 3 were taken. Sluis centre was deserted. After some beers as appetizers, we decided to order the mixed seafood platter ("visschotel van het huis"). Quite sizeable, and the fish was prepared well, but it was all fairly bland, with sauces that seemed warmed up and industrial. The fries and vegetables were ok, but not exciting either. All in all, a nourishing meal that lacked imagination. Good service though, by our local waiter. But not good enough to go back I think.

Everybody is welcome in de Kaaipoort!
I went here with my parents to enjoy the 'eel', a local delicy named Paling. The restaurant had good reviews, so we wanted to try. I can only say that the food (We had fried eel and one eal in cream sauce). Taste wise, it was probably just above average. However the portion was very small. Each had 6 pieces of eel (about 1.5 inch long = 4cm pieces). It was clear the pieces had been measured out. The 'market price' turned out to be 27 euro for 1 portion of friend eel. The cream sauce added another 3 euro, which portion became 30 Euro. For the small portions, this was well overpriced compared to other restaurants in the region that offer bigger portions at lower prices. I honestly can't remember which startes we had, but I guess that means that they were not very memorable.I find it for the above reason difficult to recommend this restaurant.

We highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner, we were a group of friends and it must be highlited the quality and food taste with a great service attention. The menu allows to combine different dishes and it is a great choice in Sluis Groote Markt!

We had fish at Kaai 10 and it seemed to be swimming out of the sea right onto our plate. Very delicious...

Paradise on earth for meat lovers, in a charming and well decorated restaurant. I had a tomahawk steak orderes from approximately 700 grams. Just super meat, crispy crust and tender and medium rare inside; no sauce needed. The kind of restaurant where I would like to return again. Also a very kindly staff.

We discovered Passion for a first time through a Groupon promotion. Since we had been spoiled then, we decided to go back for a second time. The staff deserves a 11/10 for friendliness. All of them!My burger and my partner's steak were delicious and the fries... well, they're amongst the best we ever had. When in Sluis, don't doubt and go to Passion. You won't be disappointed.

Went there with a group of 20 , but as we were the only groupmembers living close-by , we did not check into the hotel but only joined for an all-inclusive dinner. All drinks are included in between a preset, but wide time frame, this came at a price of 2 x 45 euro for the two of us. That price is way too high, unless you consume a wide range of alcoholic variaties and subsequently crash into your bed in the adjacent hotel. The hotel owners, friendly and hospitable people originating from the Middle East,do not seem to grasp the concept of starter and main course as all dishes (not the sweets) are kind of shuffled without any logic order for moving along the buffet. Also, the choices are rather limited and the buffet is rather small, so a lot of containers were empty and waiting for refill. The quality is good though. Same for the sweets: just bend over and scratch your icecream from boxes down in the freezer. Not a very festive way of presenting.
