A friend has been recommending this place for a long time, so we finally came in the other night for dinner. Really nice restaurant and it is quite large. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. Everything was very good but the absolute standout was the curried lamb chops, the flavour was extraordinary, I absolutely loved them.Personally I was not enamoured with the naan, it was not chewy enough for my liking, bit that is a tiny thing. I loved it and I will be back for sure.

We booked this place for a family event and paid over $3000. However, our experience was tainted with rude waiter who misbehaved with our guests despite the fact that I had discussed the additional table(s) with Gaurav. This encounter was enough for us not to enjoy the evening as envisioned. We complained, but the waiter was not substituted. I have previously commented on poor staff attitude at this restaurant. Unfortunately, it continues. We will likely not be returning to this location and caution others.

The prices are right but I suppose one gets what they pay for because the portions are also smaller. We opted for the butter chicken and fish curry with a couple of garden salads. Our repast was satisfying but to be truthful we were both hungry a couple of hours later.

Royal Tandoori Restaurant

Reviewed By Ben W

Despite I have been living in New West for more than 7 years and this restaurant is just half a block away I have visited that place just once before, long time ago. When I walked by that restaurant, I found it usually totally empty; rarely I saw one or two tables occupied. As far as I remember, the impression of the previous meal there was not so great. Nevertheless I wanted to try it again. I have been intending to do so already last year; But at that time it haven’t been open despite it was shown as open and it was within the business hours. Few days ago I convinced my friend to try to visit this restaurant again for dinner. It was a big mistake. We ordered “Akber Ki Pasand a non-vegetable Thali” (Incl. veggie Samosa, Pakauras, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Curry, mixed veggies, Nan, lentils, rice, Paped, Chutney and a Gulab Jamun as dessert) and Bhuna Chicken. Additionally, we ordered Garlic Nan and Mango Ice Cream as a second dessert. While the Bhuna Chicken was not special but ok, the Thali was very diappointing: The Samosa was tasteless and got just a bit taste from the “tamarind” sauce (provided in a plastic bottle). The “Pakauras” (I believe they meant pakoras) were acceptable. The Chicken Curry was exactly the same what I got served as main dish (Bhuna Chicken). The mixed veggies didn’t taste fresh at all; they were almost tasteless too. I couldn’t find any lentils but Chickpeas that didn’t have the typical Chickpea taste. And this item what I considered a piece of carrot on top of the rice was most likely the piece of Tandoori Chicken. It looked terrible and was absolutely tasteless. The “Paped” (I believe they meant Papadam/Papadum) was ok. Both types of nan were also ok. Besides the Tandoori Chicken, the worst items were the desserts: The Gulab Jamun (usually my favourite) looked already rather like an Indian pastry than the well-known dessert. And although I prefered the Gulab Jamun not so soft and soaked, this one was very firm (politely said). And it was served along with the main dish but not after that as it used to be for a dessert. Despite I ate it immediately, it was just lukewarm. Additionally, this item didn’t have the typical taste of a Gulab Jamun. Considering the properties of that dessert I had the impression (supported by the fact that there were almost no other customers) that this Gulab Jamun was very old and just warmed up in a microwave. The second dessert was also not satisfying: According to its taste it was the cheapest, most artificial mango ice cream I have ever eaten. The taste didn’t come even close to a taste of real Mangos. As a conclusion, this restaurant is one of the worst Indian restaurants I have visited in the past years. I am not recommending to eat there at all.
