I have reviewed this restaurant before however that was 4 years ago and there is a different team and menu now. However they still do âfluffyâ naan! The more extensive menu now has goat as a choice along with lamb and chicken. The seafood is quality white fish rather than the Ling found in many Indian restaurants.I chose goat Pasanda and it was subtle and the goat tender. My partner had lamb Biryani, a dish she often orders, and she is still raving about it. She said that the flavours were subtle but distinctive and didnât all meld together. Her serving was generous. The staff are friendly and helpful. We have dined at the highly rated Spice Room in Wanaka and I commented that tonight was the nicest Indian that weâve had since then.I only rate excellent if I believe that the experience was better than most others Iâve had in similar establishments. I never hesitated hitting excellent this time.We really appreciate your beautiful comment. Yes, we use only best quality ingredients when it comes to our foods and services..We are really pleased to know that our food and services were to your expectation..We are looking forward to serving you again in future...

All mains are gluten free except samosa, malai kofta and naan bread. all the options are available-(vegetarian, non-vegetarian and sea food) please come and share experience with us.
Called in for cheap and cheerful on friday night and found it very cold which didn't help the atmosphere for the few local clients. We enjoyed the Lamb Posht and Mango Chicken after the mixed platter entree. As it is BYO and in the Entertainment book, overall good value.

Own Masala is a fine indian cuisine located in sumner Christchurch. We do takeaways,Dine-in and Delivery As well.
We enjoyed our meals and would go back but I felt so sorry for the table beside us. The waiter went over to their table at 1.50pm and told them they closed at 2.00pm. They hadn't even received their meal by then. This is appalling hospitality and an issue I have had before in Indian restaurants.Dear Inverness1966,Firstly, I would like to say thank you for taking time to leave this feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your meal. We are sorry to hear about the other table beside you. We will advise our team to provide clear information. In addition, It's our responsibility to inform our customers about our kitchen closing time however that doesn't mean they have to leave the place by 2 pm. our kitchen close at 2 pm for lunch because we have to prepare for dinner as we re-open at 4:30 for Dinner.I hereby kindly request to our valued customer that any order before our kitchen closing time will be prepared and you will get plenty of time to have it.Kind Regards,Management at Own Masala Indian Restaurant and Takeaway

The food here is so good and tasty that i make sure i go to this restaurant everytime i go to Christchurch on business. I have been here 6 times in the past 4 weeks and the food standard is always high. The vegetarian sliders are very nice for an entree and the biriyani is a must try. Lamb curry is super. Highly recommend it to visitors. It's a licensed place as well and the staff are friendly and helpful. It's located in front of the ibis hotel.

We ate in a lot of Indian Restaurants all over New Zealand, but Ferry Indians was definitely not among the good ones. First of all, the toilets are outside of the restaurant in a business building, shared with another restaurant and quite dirty. In the restaurant they used incense sticks, so the whole room and our clothes smelled like that. The food - both of us had curries - did not have a real good and authentic taste. But one good thing: the waiter was nice and friendly.

We had high expectations having read some good reviews but despite being run by an Indian family we felt that the food was 'tourist' level (not worried about return business)We ordered the chicken Korma (a favourite) and took a chance on the intriguing lemon chicken with garlic naan breads. Both dishes were the same colour which didn't make sense; a mid brown/tan - Korma being usually mild & creamy should be a lighter beige. The Korma didn't taste authentic at all and my partner even described it as bland, the lemon chicken was also tasteless and seemed as if the same sauce had a little lemon juice added to make the difference. The naan breads were perfect except the use of pottled garlic robbed them of the usual heady scent and tongue tingly taste of the fresh stuff. We implore the family to look at the menu and perhaps offer dishes that they would eat at home.Overall ambience is good as were the service and prices.Sorry you were disappointed in the dishes you chose. I shall have a word with the chefs. It has never happened before. It's always good to get feedback so we can improve ourselves. Please, if you are around, do come back and have a meal on us. Namaste
