During our time in Devonport, my wife and I decided to have dinner one evening at Taj Mahal. We arrived at around 6:00pm and were seated right away. However, a âBush Christmasâ was being celebrated in town; a large party was expected, so we arrived at the right time. While I didnât see it on the menu, I love masala chai and asked if I could order a cup. The server cheerfully checked and advised that the kitchen would be happy to prepare a cup for me. One of the owners then came out to make sure I enjoyed the masala chai. I really appreciated this personal service! Just as important, the masala chai was very good. I started with an order of samosas which included 2 samosas. They were good, but I was a little disappointed with the shell. The vegetable filling was tasty, but the shell was a little overdone. My main course more than made up for the samosas. I had lamb vindaloo which was authentically spicy and accompanied by a fragrant rice a garden salad and naan. This meal was delicious and enough for me to have a second meal of vindaloo, rice and naan the following day. The restaurant is spacious with comfortable seating and was very clean. While I understand the practicality of plastic covers for tables, they are not aesthetically appealing. Laundering the lovely tablecloths that were under the plastic would be my preference. Still, I enjoyed my dinner at this restaurant and was appreciative that the kitchen staff graciously prepared a cup of masala chai for me.

After a long while of not having eaten here we got takeaway. Sadly was disappointed. I'm a bit of a curry snob as I have a fantastic Indian restaurant close to me, but this one didn't come close to my favorite or to my earlier experiences of this restaurant. Perhaps a change in owners or chef has occurred. I think it was much better before. Lacked flavour & texture this time around. Will still try an in-house dinner here to be sure, but I'm not currently of the view that it is close to being the best (which was my earlier view). Can buy Indian groceries though which is a plus & is quite interesting for those who like to cook.

Award winning indian restaurant from Queensland and Nz now open in Devonport Authentic Indian food make according to your palate Experience Chef worked in Australia and Nz for 25 years family restaurant/business Outdoor catering and party orders accepted
We have been meaning to try this restaurant for sometime as most of the reviews look great. We chose a very busy night and the restaurant soon filled up. Great decor, friendly staff and its always good to see an open kitchen. We ordered a bottle of Lindeman's Pinot Grigio even though it was priced at $33!!! An incredible markup of at least $25, how do they justify that??? At the local BWS you can purchase 3 bottles of the same wine for $18. The restaurant also allows BYO and charges $5 per customer, so this is a better option and you can chose the wine that you drink!!!On to the meal, we started with the Mixed Platter for Two and when it arrived we had to send back the two Samosas because they were cold inside. The replacement Samosas arrived just after we had finished the rest of the starters and they were perfect - hot all the way through + nice and spicy. For the main course with had Chicken Saagwala (Asked for HOT) and Saffron Rice + Naan. The Chicken Saagwala physically was hot, but not very spicy hot, which was disappointing. The saffron rice arrived mixed with ordinary boiled rice, when we questioned this the waitress just said that was the way the kitchen serves it!!!Overall disappointed by our first visit to SKs Indian Restaurant. It could be so much better and can only put it down to the restaurant been very busy the night we visited. Will try again, but not on a Friday or Saturday night. Thanks for your comments It was a busy night unfortunately without much bookings itâs difficult to judge We try our best to keep our guests happy Liquor license costs lot of money for your information thatâs why the mark up is thereFor a prime location and water view I suppose our price is reasonable
