Things to do in Dandenong
We stumbled across this little gem in the SmartSaver junk mail, and it sounded like it was worth the short trip to Dandenong North (closer to Rowville than Dandenong). Located in the group of shops at 52 Outlook Drive, Dandenong North (runs off Brady Road from Stud Road). Here we found the best Malaysian murtabak we have ever had - very highly recommended - done traditionally with a large roti, folded over with light vegie and meat filling. The fish curry was really good (it uses whole fish steaks, so includes some bones). The so-called plain steamed rice was lightly aromatic - excellent. The small vegie curry was also very tasty. This restaurant has a few basic tables for anyone who wants to eat in, but it seems to be targeting take-away. Perhaps they are new to this, or just staying simple. While we waited for the order to be cooked, we were both offered a small chicken biryani each - delicious with a good hint of spice and a little heat. And our take away included a couple of small bonuses - a sample Sri Lankan pan roll was very nice (potato, fried chicken and mixed vegies with bread crumb coating), and a papadum (better than average, wasn't crispy, and not so thin). The nice glossy menu lists a few dishes, but doesn't include everything, and doesn't have prices. They specialise in dosas (Sri Lankan pancake/crepe including: plain, masala, schezwan), a variety of chicken curries, lamb curries, fish curries and vegie curries. Anyone who likes Sri Lankan food will probably find what they want here. Not expensive at all - most of the dishes we chose seemed to be a flat $8 for a standard take-away container full. Our whole order came to $26, and it was enough to feed 2 of us for two meals! Great value! Our next visit will include: pan roll, murtabak, and chicken biryani (which might not be on their standard menu; but they are available). The web site includes a phone number to ring for a "quick order", and more details: www.rottichennai.com.au

This is the second time I have eaten at this restaurant. To be fair the food is average, prices are reasonable. The customer service is beyond words and care factor of staff is zero. They charge for water which is bottled and don't provide tap water. Unless you specify you don't want the water they will charge. It is Coles brand water which is 99 cents at Coles and hey charge 1.50Definitely worth giving this place a miss
We cater authentic and home style South Indian dishes. It pure vegetarian restaurant. Idliy, Dosai, Panniyaram, Poori, Sapadu (South Indian Complete meal) Bajji, Bonda, Vadai, butter milk, lassi, South Indian Filtter Coffee, and Masala Tea are part of men
Best South Indian restaurant I have come across till now. If you are looking for simple and tasty home made food this is a MUST VISIT place. Podi Idli Fry and poori & potato is a MUST TRY. Definitely better than Saravana Bhavan and Anjappar food. Well done Guys

Authentic and traditional India food and Indian sweets at absolutely reasonable prices. A great place for take-away. Has been maintaining the good quality over the years.

This is a popular restaurant among the Sri Lankans in Melbourne. A trivia night organised by the past pupils of a popular convent in Colombo was on and regular diners were accommodated on the level above the ground floor. Things moved slowly during the initial stages of the evening but picked up as the place got filled. The 3 piece band played popular music of yesteryears and it suited the ânot soâ young crowd. A surprise was sprung when a popular singer from Sri Lanka joined the band to sing some of his favourite songs. Dancing followed. The buffet had variety and the ever popular âhoppersâ were being replenished in sort of a frenzy. When our crowd left around 11.00 pm the band was continuing to entertain the remaining sparse crowd. Highly recommended.

I had a most enjoyable lunch here on a Saturday. I wanted to try a number of things, so I took the Thali meal option at $15 vegetarian and $16 with meat. You get two curries, rice, naan, raita and a salad of lettuce, tomato and cucumber. I found it tasty, filling and light on the chillies. I suppose you can ask for how spicy you want it. The Dal Mkhani was a standout (bean curry).

Food is excellent, sevice amazing and staff are very friendly and courteous. The owner, Mana goes out of her way to make her repeat customers feel special, even goes out of her way to make birthday/anniversary celebrations extra special. I have always had a fantastic meal here. Every dish you have here is made with love & passion even though they have a very broad menu. Excellent value for money as well.

We visited this restaurant almost 5 months back. That time, the food and service was really great. But can't imagine what has happened this time. We ordered one Channa battura, one thali of the day, punjabi thali, Ghee roast and a chilli baji .After ordering the food, we waited for 55 minutes for the first food to come( ghee dosa) . And our last food came at 1 hour 10 minutes. ( channa Battura). Gulab jamu with the punjabi thali, i had to remind them multiple time before we got it. I told them about the wait time. They dont have an answer. Its really shame to drop your quality by this level. There is something really happening in the process that caused it. If this is the service you are going to provide, its going to be a tough future for you
