Anyone planning a rail trip to or from Springfield or just visiting the Downtown should consider an upgrade to the current eateries (Subway and Dunkin Donuts) at the wonderfully renovated, iconic 1926 Springfield Union Station.Located a convenient half block from the new station parking garage, at the intersection of Lyman and Main Streets, this intimate restaurant offers great service, décor, and food. On two previous occasions, we got carryout, once when we took an Amtrak train bound for Hartford for a day trip along the newly opened Hartford Commuter Line (Springfield â New Haven) and once after coming from Washington, DC, on the daily Amtrak Vermonter. On this occasion we had a normal lunch meal at a table. We each had a different, and equally delicious, lamb dish and a different type of lassi drink, one âmangoâ and one âsweetâ, both mouth watering. We also had two types of bread: naan and gluten-free, lentil. Finally, we each had a separate type of soup, one coconut and one lentil, both very tasty.Being a rail lover, I enjoyed the rumble of the train passing over the Main Street Viaduct, built in 1889, when the 3rd of 4 Springfield Stations was built. Also, I could look down the Lyman Street side of the station. The restaurant has been here for 30 years. Hopefully, with the recent doubling of trains to the City, many new visitors will be discovering this gem.

My wife and I went for the lunch buffet. We were warmly greeted at the door and shown to our table. The waiter asked for our drink order within 30 seconds of sitting. We tryed the lunch buffet which had approximately 20 different foods. We tryed alittle of everything they had. Some were alittle spicy others foods weren't.They had chicken, fish, salad , soups and a host of vegetable dish to choose from.I don't know all the names of them...BUTwe will return, the food was very very good and the service was outstanding.
