About Us Welcome to JS Restaurant JS is the oldest kosher restaurant in Manchester, our reputation for quality food and good service has grown and grown over the years from our humble beginnings in 1956 to a restaurant which can now cater for over 150 din
This place had a makeover a year or so ago, following a fire, and it looks only slightly different now. Iâm not sure that the changes are for the better, as the benches and chairs make it look more like a cafe (as opposed to a restaurant) now. The menu has also changed quite a bit - itâs more restricted now, and it has more of a Middle eastern feel than a traditional kosher feel. In other respects, though, itâs still the same: you still get service that floats between unfussy (on the edge of surly) and helpful, and the waitresses were particularly good at advising my son on the kidsâ portions and helping him to decide whether to order from the kidsâ menu or from the adultsâ (and offering to adapt the latter to suit him). The best bit, as ever, was the food, with large portions as usual: good, hot chicken soup (although a bit too salty), and good teriyaki chicken (with the customary excellent chips); the lamb was good too (a huge portion), and my son was very happy with both his burger and his hot dog. The desserts were a bit disappointing, with the description of the chocolate explosion somewhat over-selling the rich, distinctly unchocolately product that arrived. The least impressive bit was that there wasnât a lock on the gentsâ loo - with only one male loo facility (no urinals), it really isnât good enough to expect occupants to sit (or stand) there knowing that some unwitting other customer might walk in at any time. This restaurant of course corners the market, but it wouldnât take much to convert it from being a decent place to a very good place. As it is, thereâs a just a bit too much of taking the clientele for granted for me to be truly evangelical about it.

After being let down by a cancelled Rewind 80s festival we turned up at The John Gilbert in our Ghostbusters fancy dress and had a fantastic time. The staff were lovely and friendly even playing the ghostbusters theme tune just for us . The singer who was on that night was fantastic and we All got up and had a dance and sing along. When I lost my phone the bar staff and doormen were really helpful trying to track it down. Great customer service. My phone was luckily found the next morning and when I went to collect it we stopped for lunch. The fish fingers on brioche bun is highly recommended....especially after a night chasing spirits. Wow! Thanks Steph for such a great and detailed review! We do remember you that night and what a great night it was âºï¸ The fish finger brioche is one of our most popular light snacks and glad you enjoyed it. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon. So, next time you want to book a table.. Who you gonna call?

Asian Resturant & Grill serving Halal Indian Pakistani and Grill Food.
Went with the mrs and thought we'd try it. Service was a little lacking, we got asked for a couple of things twice and they missed a drink towards the end of our meal but the food was great. Never have desert after an Indian normally but the ice cream is fantastic. Curry was great and starter too. Place could do with a bit of tidying up but non of the negatives spoiled the night or the food. Will be back.
