Newly arrived in Wellington and no reservation. Received excellent customer service with the staff going above and beyond to find us a table and serve us in time to get to our WOW performance in the evening. Food was top notch especially the John Dory fish of the day and the petit fours with seasonal sorbets.Would definitely visit again the next time we are in Wellington.

We ate here as a group of 10, at the end of a long week. Delicious food (my steak was perfectly cooked - also had octupus starter and cheese to finish but really everything looked great) and delicious wine with very attentive service and very comfortable surroundings made it the ideal venue. It is a very comfortable place for groups - we were not loud but could hear each other well and did not disturb others. Could not recommend it more highly.

The Portlander was my restaurant of choice when taking overseas friends and family, always get a very good steak and the staff are always polite and helpful. How ever, this week two of my guests chose a lamb main course. They were very disappointed that is was very rare and tough. One of my guests could not eat the dish and it was sent back for a recook, it arrived back in much the same way. The other guest was too embarrassed say much and left most on the plate. The maitre d’ came over and offered a free dessert! Not the point, the two Lamb dishes should have been removed off the account. Very disappointed.Hi Rod, Thank you for you feedback! I'm sorry to hear that on this occasion we didn't deliver as expected. I do agree with you completely, the two lamb dishes should have been removed and not the desserts, as that's where the issue laid. I would love to invite you in for a coffee and chat when possible to put this right; feel free to contact me on [email protected] thanks,Daniel
