Smoky Kitchen offers outstanding Sri Lankan cuisine in an authentic atmosphere. Traditional village providing an insight into the history and culture of the country. The open kitchen allows visitors to watch the preparation of the traditional recipes. Wel
This was probably our favourite dining experience in Sri Lanka. After a mediocre meal at a highly rated restaurant and a poor meal in our hotel, we came here on our final night in Tissa with fairly low expectations. However, we could not have been more wrong. There are 2 parts to the restaurant; a newer air conditioned part and a more atmospheric part where the buffet is served. I'm not a fan of buffets, but seeing what the other couple in the restaurant were eating we went for it. It's an open kitchen format and a team of 3 or 4 chefs spent the next 20-30 minutes freshly cooking around 10 vegetarian dishes for us that were then laid out for us on the counter as a private buffet. All of them were great, but 3 or 4 were truly exceptional. Moreover, the ladies cooking were happy to explain to my wife the steps they were taking, what the ingredients were etc. Basically a 'hands-off' cooking lesson. You also get one small meat or fish dish served to you along with the vegetarian buffet. I love my meat, but as usual in Sri Lanka this wasn't great. Completely unimportant though with the amount and quality of other food provided. An amazing experience. One suggestion: if finishing late like us, do ask them to call you a Tuk Tuk. We wandered out to look for one and ended up walking a long way down deserted streets being harassed by stray dogs....not a nice experience (though nothing to do with the restaurant)!

Best sea foods, Sri Lankan special rice and curry, western and eastern foods, Indian, Indonesian and Chinese foods...............
Went for lunch. Waiters were professional and friendly. No soups at all, although the menu had several. Chop suey was mixed vegetables. Sauces (arabiata and curry) were loaded with sugar. People were smoking on two different tables and were given ashtrays by the waiters, so smoking is the norm in this restaurant !!
