We were here with friends from the Bernese Oberland. After the wonderful trip on the new railway (steepest in the world) we walked to the restaurant that had been recommended to us. There is a large terrace are, but we chose to go inside. The staff were very friendly, the service fast, and after an aperitif we ordered lunch.Fast and efficient with a limited menu that covers all the needs of the sport/ski enthusiast.Very good wine cellar, which is quite rare in alpine family resorts.

Whilst some restaurants in Europe can be a little conservative and stodgy, we were really impressed with this one. Fine dining but in a really modern setting with fabulour view over the lake. The waiters were friendly, attentive but not intrusive. The menu had a good range and the food was exciting and well plated on delivery - indeed the presentation of a number of items was exciting when it arrived. All the little things from tablecloths, glassware, crockery smacked of a sharply run venue - more than just a 'hotel restaurant'. The prices were not cheap but not unreasonable compared to other restaurants in the Lucerne region. We had a group of six and were well taken care of. The place was almost full on a Wednesday night, ranging from romantic couples to fours and sixes. If you want good food, excellent service in a modern setting, you would not go wrong here.
Very early on our way to Locarno, we stopped for a coffee & breakfast...but even though the lights were on & all the tables were set to go..the whole place was locked & barred! We rang the Night Bell(!) & the door was buzzed open & and in a while a woman (slightly startled !) appeared, & we asked if we could get a coffee? (it was obvious breakfast as WAY OFF, so we ditched that idea).Oh yes, that would be Ok -- so into the dining area we went...& we each duly ordered one double espresso --with hot milk on the side...& we got the coffees ok..but the milk order was IGNORED.. & the dreadful (& the usual,in Europe but Switzerland especially) coffee cream in UHT mini-capsules(yuk) was provided.Happy to at least get the coffees..we abandoned the idea of getting any milk (why is it in Switzerland ..the land of happy cows with musical bells---milk is SO hard to come by?) & suffered the sweetened "cream" substitute--but the coffee was REALLY good!As experienced travellers, we sought the comfort of the restaurant toilet before departing..but (INSIDE the restaurant itself) the toilets were LOCKED(!!!?) ..so there was a great performance getting hotel management getting the key & FINALLY unlocking the door....but once inside we discovered (hilariously) --- THE MEN'S TOILET WASN'T WORKING!...so we used the "Ladies" & high-tailed it outta dere..never to return!

Gotthard Motorway Service Area is set amid impressive Alpine scenery 20 kilometres before the Gotthard Tunnel. It is a popular stopping place among travellers and commuters from well beyond the local area, not just because of its beautiful position in the
Being in Switzerland, it's no wonder prices are high. This place was no exception.Euro was accepted on the same rate with Swiss Francs (which is on higher rate).Staffs were efficient but lack of friendliness. Stiff as a stick. I hope the reason was not because of race differences. The meals, however was great. They served beef, and that's great because we cannot eat pork. We have beef spaghetti and beef sausage with fries. All came in large portion. I also tried the bread and a slice of cake (don't remember the name), but taste really nice. Toilet was not free, it cost you 1 Eur or 1 CHF.

In the center of Altdorf, on a beautiful spot is our historical Restaurant. Enjoy typical swiss food, prepared with lot of passion, on our large patio or in our beautiful restaurant or enjoy a nice cocktail in our stylish bar.
After a complete renovation of the Lehnhof building in the middle of Altdorf, the Restaurant Lehnhof is open again. Gone is the "Kaffeesack" as everyone knew it and it has been incorporated into the new Restaurant Lehnhof as a bar. The two outside terraces were combined into one big one, which we will look forward to in the summer.Inside has been completely redone and modernized, with a fresh look, and lots of wood. The menu card is ok... with the traditional Swiss standard mixed up fare, Leaf salad, Springrolls (?) and Wienerschnitzel, something of everything, for everyone, with no real clear direction. Too bad, because the restaurant with the right menu card could be so much more....We visited many times in the passed and were curious to see how the new chef is. We went during the fall season to try something from the Wild game menu items, the menu surprise was too much of a risk for that price, I don't know why chefs do a menu surprise, as a fellow chef it means to me one thing - Leftovers... We took the Elk (Hirsch) as a main course, not bad, slightly to red for a medium, but it was good. the Mandarin Jus was a bit different not too orange tasting which was good. like I said I had hoped for a bit more from the menu card, not the same dishes as every other restaurant in Kanton Uri serves. Oh well. The service was very good, friendly and informative, the waiter helped us thru the wine card as the first three picks I made were sold out... Needless to say the wine card need to be reprinted and updated, the same goes for the website that shows a copy of the Menu card from May!The kitchen chef came out personally to ask how things were at the end of the evening, a nice touch, but he should have changed his apron before doing so as it was quite dirty from the evenings work.Another minus was hearing the radio playing too loud in the kitchen that you could hear all the way into the restaurant. Its the little things that will make a restaurant great....
