I was staying at the Doubletree across Broad Street and looking for a place to have dinner, saw this on Google Maps and went in without a reservation. They found me a table off in a corner--it must have been around 6 PM. Operating on the theory that nobody does lamb better than the Greeks, I ordered the Arni Paidakia. Blew me away. It's ridiculous to rate a restaurant on one visit, but I have no idea when I'll be in Philly again, and these lamb chops have to be given proper tribute. The young fellow who took and brought my order was also above reproach.Even at this hour it was pretty full and rather loud, but I don't think it would have interfered with conversation, had I not been alone.I don't know when, but I'll be back.

Kanella is a Greek restaurant located in the Washington Square neighborhood of Philadelphia.
We came for lunch, well prepared with a crisp white wine. We had the "mixed grill" special, which was suitable for two --- several varieties of grillled meats and vegitables piled high on a metal platter. It included two pretty hot green peppers which should be eaten --- but in small bites. We also got a beet salad and the lovely octopus salad. It was a marvelous meal for under 50 bucks (excluding wine and tip). Our server was charming and we also had a warm chat with the owner. We got the BEST seat, window right side near (but not too near) door.

We went here for our anniversary and were not disappointed. It's BYOB which keeps the price down and their is a liquor/wine store a few blocks down the street. The cold appetizers were fantastic. For dinner I had the octopus and my husband had the meat sampler. Both were amazing! We also ordered dessert and coffee but had to bring most of our dessert home since we were so full from dinner. We will definitely be back!
