We went to Anogia on Big Tuesday. We were hungry, so we stopped to eat here because the smell of the grilled meat was amazing! The owner was very friendly and explained he had a limited menu, which is normal in real tavernas. We ordered and sat and watched the congregation file out of the church opposite after the service, then saw the traditional sweeping of the streets with branches tied behind a pickup truck (symbolic of the people seeping the road in front of Christ's donkey on his entry into Jerusalem). The two vegetable sellers arrived and we watched as town life unfolded before our eyes. Then our meal arrived. We had charcoal grilled goat which was fantastic - crispy and salty on the outside, with the meat being tasty and succulent. A village salad with really the best home made feta I've had on Crete...and I live here! Freshly cut, freshly fried chips which were lovely, and a plate of pasta with another local cheese on top. This was washed down with the owner's own rose wine, which was was clear, crisp and clean tasting. A 'karafaki' of raki to follow - again of very high quality. This place is typical of a good village taverna - friendly service, good fresh food, local produce. The price was slightly higher than in my own area, but still not expensive. Definitely worth a visit.

Delina Restaurant offers a variety of traditional flavors, Cretan cuisine, wild herbs from Psiloriti mountain, our gardens and natural produce.
This is a restaurant with very nice traditional local food. The atmosphere is good. Waiters seem to really care. Some of the food is made with real passion for food in the fireplace in the restaurant. Both atmosphere, food and view is worth a detour. Many people from Heraklion spend one hour on sundays to eat in this and other restaurants nearby, because of their nice meat. The local long cooked lamb from the fireplace meat is worth trying. We are glad you enjoyed your visit P667CDjohnn, we hope to see you again.

Hghlands- try the scenic route to get to a village carrying an ovecelebrated story and very little scenically on location. The 1975 est. meat venue offers something exceptional. The so called 'anticristo'. Grilled lamb to the fine extent of having all fat drip-removed. Flavour and salty agey substance. The salads are fine. Ask for less vinegar. A particular variety of coffe coloured red wine may be interesting to the sociologically inclined aficionados. Sartorially intresting and communicative and phonetically unique beard-bearing owner. Conviviality, fine service. price wise I do not know because we were invited.

This was a great place with fresh local produce with lots of it home produced. Greek Local style cuisine. Nice selection. Good value for money. Nice owners who were pleasant on our first visit and welcomed us back like family on our second and third. Relaxed atmosphere. Interesting conversations about the history of this famous village. We either ate or had coffee several times in the three days we were in Anogeia and the simplicity of the place, unsophisticated and very welcoming (by the two sisters) was just what weâd hoped for on our Cretan holiday. One of the sisters had made hand-made menus which were really sweet. The omelettes and Greek salad were delicious and we had, for the first time, black tomatoes that were lovely and sweet. After our meal on our final night we were given raki (which is fairly normal over here) and a dish of nuts, then when we were about to go the sisters invited us in for another treat on the house, so we had a Greek coffee each. It was worth the long trek up the steep hill back to our hotel!

Very tasty and quality cretan food. Try all the homemade cheeses... Also antikristo and spaghetti with mizithra.... You won't regret it. Normal prices and very friendly owners. Easy 5 stars.... The only thing I didn't like it's how the restaurant look like from outside...
