We had dinner here after spending the day visiting the sights in Wittenberg. There were a number of other restaurants that had similar menus', but Carpe Diem had an old world appearance and attracted our interest. The Schnitzel was very good and there seemed to be a number of locals eating here.
We had dinner here during our first day in Wittenberg. The ambience of dining in the Wittenberg Marketplace was really nice. The surrounding buildings had a "story book" appearance. The food was very good. I had the Schnitzel, which I enjoyed.

This is the place to go if what you're you're looking for is really excellent German cooking (and beer, and wine), and the place where Wittenberg families choose for a good meal out. Helpful service, so if there's something you don't understand, just ask. When you order, bear in mind that main courses can be pretty substantial. Prices more or less as you would expect. It may be wise to book. Try the home-made "apfelschmalz".

I picked the Alte Canzley restaurant for a special dinner to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I also chose it because of the good reviews, use of organic products, and great location across from the Schlosskirche and 'theses doors.' We were a party of six and, sadly, all of us were disappointed. While the dining room was cozy and historic, the food was disappointingly bland and flavorless. No dish was particularly bad, but there was also not a single entree that was good. The worst pick was probably my mother's salad. The dressing seemed to consist of milk and some vinegar without any herbs. We actually let the waitress know that none of us were pleased with our dinner choices, but there was no reaction from the kitchen. Service was polite, but not overly friendly. In sum, we had an unsatisfactory evening.

We were at the Lutherhaus in Wittenberg . We had spent a few hours at the excellent exhibitions in the Augusteum on the theme of 95 treasures and 95 people and needed some lunch before visiting the Lutherhaus itself. The selection is limited as it is a museum cafe not a restaurant but the Flammkuchen I had was very good, as was my husbands watercress soup. We were disappointed that the soup came with sliced white bread rather than the usual excellent German bread we were used to be served with in hotels and restaurants . The drinks were good and they had some cakes and ice creams and other itens on offer which we did not try. Service was quick but we stayed as long as we needed to rest our feet before continuing to the rest of the museumDear babarandceleste, thank you very much for your kind review. I will pass along your remark regarding the slice of white bread. This is really helpful for us to improve our services. Also, I have some great news: As of September 1st, the actual restaurant von Bora is open for business. When you visited, only the âGartencaféâ had been open for guests. Since it is rather a cefé, only one meal of the day, one soup of the day and a charming variety of âFlammkuchenâ are served there (as well as cake, ice cream and coffee specialties). At the restaurant âvon Boraâ, however, a lot of exquisite meals and dishes are served from 11 am â 11 pm (Monday-Sunday). We would be delighted if you came by the next time you are in Wittenberg. Looking forward to be seeing you again some day.Kind wishes Christin RosenbergOn behalf of Stephanie Lange

Tired of a traveling day we just wanted to eat something decent. This was the closest restaurant. ( there is relatively happening in this rural area). We had schnitzel, quail and a pasta dish. Schnitzel was ok, but you expect that in Germany. The was perfectly crisp and still juicy: top dish. The pasta was also very good. We did not appetite for more but will return. And also important, very friendly service.. Spot on.

If you are visiting Wittenberg, this is a must eatery. However, you must make reservations otherwise you wonât get a table at dinner time. Our group of six weâre pleasantly surprised. I had the Hacienda Baked potato platter, and my wife had Smoked Pork with Sauerkraut and potato noodles. Others ordered the lamb skewer with goat cheese. We also had the Himmel and Erde (Heaven and Earth) as an appetizer that we all shared. The wine was good as was the beer. We shared a little from everyoneâs entree and realized that we could use another night in town so we could try some of the other offerings.

We really enjoyed the restaurant. It was busy on a Tuesday night, so we were pointed up the stairs. Plenty of space and we sat right down. Waitress didn't speak English but she did give us some English menus, so we were able to communicate just enough. We enjoyed a couple rounds of the beer they brew in house. Excellent. And our meal was great, too. I had meatballs. Loved em. Service was just right. Had a fun German atmosphere, but not too kitschy. Great little courtyard eating area that is probably fun during the day, but since we were here for dinner we ate inside. Really liked this place. Would certainly return if we were ever back in Wittenberg.
