We visit a relative in Villingen every couple months and generally invite her out for lunch. The last few times, we've gone to Hildebrand and will probably go back again next time. One reason is the pleasant country atmosphere. The terrace is a great place to have lunch outdoors. When weather or season precludes outdoor dining, we don't mind having to dine indoors because the indoor dining areas are light and airy with large windows providing a view of the fields and forests outside. The food is very tasty and a good value. One word of caution: Always order your meal with sauce/gravy on the side!!!! Hildebrand, like so many European restaurants, makes the assumption that diners enjoy all dishes soaked in gravy. Fact is, gravy just does not compliment some dishes, for example French fries, green beans among others. Further, Hildebrand serves some pretty decent meats and mostly, they just taste better without gravy. My wife sometimes forgets to order the meal with sauce on the side and she always regrets it. The last time, she ordered duck and it was excellent, or would have been had it not been drowned in gravy. The time before, my wife ordered Tafelspitz. It was smothered in so much white sauce that she had a hard time tasting the Tafelspitz. The white sauce was said to be horseradish (Kren) but there wasn't too much real taste of Kren. The meal would have been much more enjoyable had the Tafelspitz been served plain and a little dish of true authentic Kren available on the side.Hildebrand has a pretty good salad bar too.

This place is a classic German very goog Buergerliches Place. Food excellent quality and very tasty. We had dinner there with lamb shank and beef, which was very well done. Rare we asked and rare we got, which is not often the case in Germany. Great sauces and veggies.

As we were back in the region, we visited Vau again. I could make a joke, but the plates are not large enough for the food, please check the Wiener Schnitzel of my friend. The red wine was excellent, light, just perfect for the summer! Enjoy the fresh asparagus and strawberries of the region

I've come not to expect much from German restaurants so this place took me by surprise. The lamb tasted like angels dancing on my tongue and I'm told the steak was just as good.

I can't find exact location of the restaurant. Poor German kitchen. Nothing special or worth to annotate.

The food at the Schweizerof is absolutely delicious - it's a family favorite and we visit every tine we are visiting the area. The portions are generous and the prices are decent. A must when you are in town

Went here with my family and we reserved a table few hours earlier. The food war really good, fresh prepared and delicious. We had the asparagus in pancakes and cheese. Cordon bleu with fried potatoes, spätzle with pork steaks and spätzle with turkey steaks...Really tasteful and fresh prepared. And our waitress noticed that not all of us were German so she changed in English, she was so nice and friendly. We can definitely recommend it! And will go again.

The food is quite good. More traditional german dishes are being served here for medium prices. They offer a good range of options to choose from, but not too many. That is something which I hate, if there are just too many choices on the menu. Here it´s the perfect middle. I had some Schnitzel with fries, both of which were very well done. The restaurant presents itself in a traditional black forest style and the staff was very friendly. Will return!

Schnitzel, pommes frites and salad is a standard. Pretty cheap but pretty basic in cooking. Nothing special. Theyâve also got finger food on the menu and burgers. The restaurant is dark and uninspired. Yet, they show football and serve different beers. If you like this - good choice

Several people recommended this pub and I was not disappointed. The main part is a huge, really old timber pub with lots of dark corners and loads of atmosphere. The rear section is a spacious, light restaurant decorated as a rock cafe with electric guitars in cases on the wall. The menu is extensive and the service fast and very friendly. You need to make a reservation in advance as the restaurant was fully booked at 7pm on a Tuesday! We were lucky and grabbed a table for an hour and just had one plate. All the meals were excellent and the cost reasonable. I will return.
