We were a party of 18 from Scotland and went for lunch at this restaurant after an enjoyable morning boating on the lake. Our order was simple, with some wanting Schnitzel, others egg mayonnaise, and 6 people wanted just a portion of chips. Setting aside that it took over 90 minutes for 12 of us to receive our dishes, the incredible part happened when the waitress told the 6 people with empty plates that the restaurant had run out of chips. Offering the 6 disgruntled diners potato croquettes as an alternative, she then was seen leaving the restaurant at the end of her shift, leaving a young, new waiter in charge. The waiter seemed surprised that we were unhappy with the appalling service we had received. Those with food felt guilty and those without what they had ordered felt very let down. Rarely have I experienced such poor customer service. The waiter said he had no authority to reduce the bill and the manager wasn't at the restaurant. All in all, a disappointing experience which left us with a poor view of German customer service.

Waldrestaurant Zur Steinkiste is located in Soest, just 1km south of the Autobahn 44. The restaurant is not easy to find. Zur Steinkiste furniture is old-fashioned and the ambiance antiquated. We came on a Monday evening was the establishment empty, not a good sign. With few restaurants near by we decided Zur Steinkiste a try. What a deception. The Kalbschnitzel was copious and mediocre. The asparagus with a mix of vinegar & sugar appeared uneatable. Service is adequate.

This was a great take on classic German dishes. Food was beautifully prepared and presented. We were a group of 5 and everyone enjoyed their meal without exception. Staff were super friendly and helpful - even to the uneducated English!! Thank goodness. If you want somewhere that feels a bit special, this is definitely the best place in Soest for that.

Food excelent and with quite high intentions. Menu only in German and some waiters not so good at English. Very nice and calm hotel on the German countyside. Nice area for walking and running. Great view from the damm about a mile down the road. If you like running the lap over the damm and bridge is 12 km long trough the forest. Can really recommend the Rind filet, medium rare!!!
The Bootshaus Moehnesee (boathouse) is not immediately recognizable as a restaurant from the road on the lake shore. It is original and looks exactly as rowers and yachtsmen want it. In contrast to many other commentators yesterday we have experienced very friendly and relatively fast staff. The cake yesterday was great! Excellent with fresh fruits. And the view of the Moehnesee is one of the best in the lake. Water, sailors and oarsmen.

The only Soester brewery When the Peace of Westphalia riders after the 30 year war between Munster and Osnabruck were traveling, as the half-timbered building of Renaissance beamed even from a quiet comfort. That has not changed in the last 400 years. Fro
Forget the food just sample the beers, The dark beers are very good for those cold days. Summer is all about the Pils.Mind you the service was a little slow and a massive issue with the wasps, had to move on in the end.Take time to admire the town, very few foreign tourist like ourselves, that is a good thing.

Haus Griese is a hotel with an excellent restaurant. The food is extremely well presented and very tasty. The service was excellent and there is a great view of the Mohnesee. Haus Griese is primarily a very well appointed hotel, with very comfortable rooms. I whole heartily recommend this hotel and restaurant.

The staff were very friendly and tried to speak in English to us. The atmosphere is great and it's in a brilliant location with good views. The food! We had the salmon pasta, jacket potatoes and tuna salad respectively. We ordered the small salad and it was huge! Portion sizes are huge and well priced!Would definitely return.Hi WorldFoodie32,thank you for your comment. It's a great pleasure for us to welcome guests like you. We stayed in Arnsberg for our Obstacle run. Afterwards we searched high and lo for a decent place to eat without any luck. We decided to try this charming place. The atmosphere is vey American style with lots of photo ops. The restaurant and bar close on Sundayâs at 20:00 but they let us take a last minute order no problem. Definitely worth a visit.

On a very wet and windy day decided to have a drive out to this restaurant. The food is wonderful and the ambience of the restaurant was really lovely. Very unusual with stunning décor and the service was excellent. Will definitely come back in the Summer when the lake and surrounding area will just give perfection to this place. Very reasonable and well worth the visit but it can be very busy and although we didn't have a problem to be seated it probably would be best to book .
