We ate here as part of our two-night stay at Berghaus Iffigenalp, with dinner and breakfast included as "half pension." The proprietress (Helen Gfeller) welcomed us very warmly, and worked hard to make us feel comfortable. The dinners were excellent (very tasty traditional Swiss fare, with seconds and thirds offered), as was the breakfast buffet. The dining areas were bright and clean, with good views of the mountains and a nearby farm. After dinner, a herd of dairy cows (with cowbells ringing) filed past on their way to be milked. Berghaus Iffigenalp is quite isolated, located at the end of a narrow road (served by bus). But it is worth the trip.

Swiss fondue

Lovely cows, peaceful Swiss music and a nice collection of classic cow bells on display in the ceiling. This is a fun place to come with kids. The barn is ideally situated at the base of Wispile mountain so it should enjoy a great flow of business for lunch or early après ski business. They do next to nothing however to promote themselves. The staff only speaks German. The menu is only in German. So if you're anything but Swiss German, you might find the animals more hospitable than the staff as that was my experience. The menu is also VERY limited. Come for the entertainment value of a simple lunch amongst the animals. It is an entertaining break from the overpriced mountain top options but it could be so much more.
