Beautiful meal, totally unexpected for a small restaurant tucked away in a quiet valley of Switzerland, but this is Europe. Popular with the locals, its great for a cup of coffee and a chat, a quiet intimate meal or an organised gathering for groups.Thank you very much! See you soon in Switzerland :-)

This restaurants offers traditional Swiss food. Generous portions, with the menu in German only. The local area is rural, and we enjoyed our experience eating here. We were staying in the local village. The meals do not come fast, and the wait staff seems to vary during one sitting. One waitress spoke some English. I would recommend this restaurant as there are not many nearby with similar level of food quality.

went there for lunch with 3 kids and a friend, food was ok but the service was a bit like being at a funeral, she never once smiled and it seemed as though she would rather not be there, another waitress did appear and served us inbetween and she was alot friendlier. Its a place that I would prefer not to visit again but chances are I will be invited again sometime, on that point at least I'm not paying, so I don't have to tip the unfreindly waitress.

Visiting the beautiful Emmental area I had dinner here thanks to the positive reviews. Located a few minutes from the railway station, Bären is an impressive and beautiful house typical of the Emmental region. Thumbs-up to Ursula for the very friendly and efficient service. The menu is Swiss traditional with focus on regional produce. I started with the tasty "Fränzis-Salat" (named after the owner's wife Fränzi) - green salad with scrambled eggs and parmesan. As main course I chose the pan-fried Entlebuch trout fillets: generous and delicious portion, fish was perfectly prepared. I ended my dinner with a homemade strawberry tart which proved quite good. In high-price Switzerland the bill remained pleasantly moderate - amounting to CHF75. Overall very good value for money.

Right now, hunting season is the prickle for venison. As an entrée, we enjoyed a nicely decorated field salad. My wife enjoyed a tender saddle of roe deer venison fillet with all the classical hunting season side dishes. My taste buds were made happy with a delicious roe steak. Both meals were served with homemade spätzli, red cabbage, chestnuts, cranberries and different game sauces. The mushroom sauce was especially delightful.The service was very courteous. We ate in the nicely decorated side room of the restaurant with comfortable wooden chairs. Decorations and furniture in this side room underline the homey, local Emmental culture.
