The city also became the administrative center of the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia in 2002. It is the second largest city in the Russian Far East, after Vladivostok. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 577,441.

München is a German style restaurant fairly well located in Khabarovsk. Atmosphere is inspired in Bavaria, including waitresses' dresses. Food is simply irregular, with fairly good dishes to terrible cooked ones. Service is below average, slow (even for Russian standards). Good eisbein but other dishes are disastreous or just average. And prices are exaggerated. Fine for one experience only.

Beerhaus is located in the very center of Khabarovsk, in a great location, at Istomina street, corner with Muravyeva-Amurskogo. The restaurant is intended to be German and the menu seems so. The menu is very large, but sometimes they do not have this and that (the usual in Khabarovsk). The food is good, but not special. We have eaten here many times and there are some dishes better than others. For instance, not bad knuckles, not nice sausages.The restaurant is decorated in a funny interesting way, wroth seeing, even there is a small well in one side, a small fountain, and many German-like decorations. Waitresses are dressed up with typical Bavarian clothes. Service is normal for Russia, sometimes better, sometimes forgetting things...They have a business lunch which is nothing German, just Russian food, usually very fast and edible (drinks not included).

Well, this place was certainly a surprise. Drawn by the many five star ratings from locals and the name, we sought it out for lunch and a beer yesterday, but no beer was to be had. It is a curious place, with huge patronage from what may have been a nearby university, as most of the many clients were very young and some were still wearing labcoats. There are two sections: the first you pass from the Main Street stairs is decorated in Chinese style. The fridge is stacked with soft drinks and there are some pretty cakes on display. Keep going through (with the crowd) and you come to a canteen where you pick what you want onto a tray and pay for everything including a glass of water with a slice of lemon if you fancy at the end. For two of us, the total was 360 roubles. Music blasted on a sound system appealing to the key demographic. All waitresses wore a uniform that had a recognisable connection to German wench image. Space was cavernous like a beer hall but furnishing and mood nothing like it. Worth checking out for a cheap, quick cafe meal, but don't expect any beer at the Beerfest.

Gustav & Gustav is another German style restaurant in Khabarovsk. Not being a fan of German food that much I gave it a try anyway and not loved it. The environment is nice, well decorated. Food was simply not up to the challenge, edible but nothing special. Eisbein was not well cooked, though other dishes were better. Service was also a little bit poor, but average for Russia. Very crowded and popular in Russia. Have heard also very different opinions of this restaurant, so I personally would prefer other places in the city.
