This is an excellent example of OberFranken hospitality. They are located on the upper level of the Kellerwald, right at the big bend. The wait staff are very friendly and quick to service. The food is off the chart good. We were a larger group of 17, so we called a couple of hours ahead to reserve space inside the hut as it was getting a tad cold and raining. Inside the hut is cozy, though there are only 3 larger tables and one small side table. I'd say may capacity is about 35 to 40. The food quality was very high and the portions were huge. Come hungry and go home stuffed... and you will not spend a fortune. The beer is very fresh from their onsite keller, which dates back over 150 years (based on the inscription). This is not one of the largest kellers in Kellerwald, so make sure you plan ahead to ensure you have a place to sit. It'll be well worth the effort.

A traditional guesthouse in Forchheim, good value for money, excellent beerHouse is family run since 1579
Having visited this town for most my life, I am very familiar with this restaurant. Based on my past experiences I was looking forward to a great meal. However, it is with great disappointment that the food was horrible. Of the four of us, two had fish, one leberkase and I a cordon-blue. One fish was cold and undercooked, the other had 80% batter and 20% fish, and the cordon-blue was overcooked and burned. The only good meal was the leberkase.I hope they repair their food quality as this place is a Forchheim landmark.

Like many restaurants in the area a friendly family run establishment where you can get a great value meal for the whole family.Came across wild boar on the menu which we had never had before and was typical of a hearty menu of dishes none of which cost more than around 15 euros. Selection for non meat/fish eaters not great but that appears typical of the area from our experience.

The Gasthaus Sponsel has now been named as one of the Top 20 Bavarian guesthouses by the German Association of Hotel and Restaurantowners. Food is from Classic Franconian to International. They are known for their goat-dishes from meat of the own herd grazing on the Walberla mountain (or Ehrenbürg), and for an impressive selection of homemade 'Schnaps'. Fritz also offers cultural events, mainly in Winter evenings. Outside of Kirchehrenbach is the 'Lindenkeller', a outdoor eating place, also owned by the family where in summer classic franconian cold dishes and beer are served. By the way, the marked point in your map is not correct, the Gasthaus is in 'Kirchehernbach', not in Forchheim. http://www.gasthaus-sponsel.de/news/83/59/Ausgezeichnete-Bayerische-Kueche.html

I tried the burger one and it was nice. For the price they offer, you wont get a better burger. I tried the burgers in other resturant in Forchheim and i like this best. It is not perfect though, but maybe one of the best you can get in Forchheim.

Very cozy place, with a squirrel decoration (maybe because of the name). The beer from draft is really good, pils, vollbier or dunkel, all good. The food was also good, beside the small schäufelle, it was delicious, the way I like. Also the curry wurst was delicious... I'll be back for sure.

The Stadtlockal is right in the middle in the pedestrian area of Forchheim. The food is ok, good beers as everywhere around here, but nothing special. What makes it an attraction to some people is, that the offer Sky TV in their back room, the only place in the inner city where you can see soccer matches of the 1.st Division in Germany live - then at mosphere is great, especially if the bavarian teams are winning :)
