This restaurant has been around for many years. Located right next to the Mariahilfberg church it is the perfect ending to a hilltop visit. The food is very good, fresh and seasonal. In nice weather, the wraparound terrace affords a beautiful view of Amberg and the surrounding area. The rooms inside are set up for groups or individuals. Try finishing their famous 'Windbeutel ' or cream puff.

The prices are reasonable and the place was filled with locals. Service was fast and friendly. There is no English menu but one of the waitresses spoke English. We had the wiener schnitzel, pumpkin soup and brat and brot. The schnitzel was over cooked and burned in places. If not for the burned schnitzel, I would have given them a higher rating. The beer of course was local, dark and good.

We visited Schon Kilian because we have found it at Michelin guide as âBib Gourmandâ tip. We stop there for early dinner around 5pm. It was at Tuesday and restaurant was completely empty which wasnât good for atmosphere. But even at this situation service was perfect and fast. Waiter helped us to translate menu to English and gave us some recommendations. Cold cucumber soup with Jacobâs mussel was awesome. Main dish (risotto) was ok. Dessert was also excellent â double creme brulee, one traditional vanilla one and second orange one. Local recommended wine was ok. If you are travel around itâs worth to stop there for lunch/dinner.

Cafe and restaurant, but also had a 2 bars, on
Cafés at central squares are often expensive but only everage. This however is NOT true for the café Zentral in Amberg. It serves many different meals with weekly changing offers corresponding to the season. I had the Milan salad from the main menue, my husband had a burger, and my daughter the "schnitzel" for kids. Everything was fresh and delicious. Furthermore they also had some "summer" beverages, like the coconut-strawbery-smoothie. It was great, we will come again and we can recomend it to anyone visiting Amberg. And siting outside, you even have a nice view at the square and all the people walking by...

One of my very favorite restaurants in all of Germany. They serve the most amazing farm fresh food. Every time we were in the area this was a must do, the town is so beautiful, the people make you want to move there and the food was amazing.

Their seasonal menu is always very fresh. The steaks are the best in Amberg and the sides are delicious. I could eat here every week. The inner courtyard is pleasant and also protected from the rain.

Dined here on the 24th, excuse me for myLack of Christmas spirit but this was a woeful experience. Second time Iâve dined her (first time 2 years ago) and it seems that the culture has change in both front and back of house. The welcome was disjointed with no one having an idea what was really going on. We were placed on a table suitable for 8 pax when there was only three of us. On addition the table was still full of dirty glassware and cutlery. Order was taken promptly however the motivation behind this was to get us in and get us out as it was clear we were the last check on order. Myself and mother in law ordered the onion soup (French onion soup). Itâs lacked depth, and no form of alcohol passed through the stock there was a lot of residual stock transpiring through the soup, concluding that this was a synthetic stock. The crouton was minimal with very little cheese. Once cleared 2 minutes later our steaks arrived. We ordered two fillets and one rib eye. Both fillets were very and look warm in the middle. It seems that the cook only cooked the fillets on the grill and did not pass/finished the fillets in the oven to get the appropriate temperature. To be fair to the kitchen my ribeye was cooked perfectly to medium rare and with how thick it was the fat was perfectly rendered. But my wife and motherâs fillets were still alive which again leads me to believe the the kitchen wanted to pushed these steaks through to start to enjoy there festive period. This theory was backed up when my wife who is German heard the Chef commenting to the table behind us that he was âhappy to be getting out of hereâ on addition to this is was quite obvious by his tone and volume that he had a skinful to drink at the Yale end of the service (this could also explain poor execution of the steaks). Overall we ended up paying 90 euros (would have been 100 if it wasnât for my wifeâs persistence) for 5 dishes with only one meriting the value for what it was. This venue has lost its soul and three customers. As I spent 16 years in a Michelin background I am very sympathetic to service or food going wrong but it was crystal clear that we were a total inconvenience to the kitchen and this was reflected in the dishes which were presented.
