One of the best pubs in Newbury for fresh food and cracking cask ales. The Lock Stock & Barrel is the ideal spot for some riverside relaxationwith its heated patio and the quirky roof terrace.
Lovely pub. Nice setting. My family and I came in here a few weeks ago. The food was nice. Staff friendly. There was a problem with one of the meal orders but the manager sorted it straight away. She was lovely, helpful and a really good laugh. If weâre back in the area weâll visit again!Thank you so much for your lovely words. We are over the moon that you enjoyed your visit at our pub. Glad all problems were resolved quickly and efficiently. All comments have been seen by the team. We hope to see you again soon for a more festive atmosphere moving into the Christmas period. Thank you again,LSB Team

My family and I came here for lunch a few weeks ago and left feeling disappointed. At first, we tried to sit outside as it was a lovely warm day but there was piles of dog poo in the grass and loads of wasps. Inside the pub there were so many flies but decided rather than travel somewhere else as we were short on time, weâd stay. The food was poor quality and overpriced. The salad with my jacket potato came covered in a salad dressing. There was no mention of salad dressing on the menu so I couldnât eat it as I dislike dressing. Food was very bland. The only positive was the service was ok. Hi,I am so sorry that you experienced such a bad visit to the Ibex, we endeavour to check the garden throughout the day for dog meas and sometimes we do fail but as a dog friendly pub it sometimes happens so for that i do apologise. In response to the salad dressing, my only thing is if you had of asked we would of presented you with a salad that had no dressing. With the wasps and flies unfortunately we can not control the flying insects we do everything to prevent them, re. we put up citronella candles and deterents but they don't always work.if you wish to discuss this further please don't hesitate to call me.Did you mention anything at the time of payment? My staff are trained to deal with complainants and to rectify them as quickly as possibleMany thanks

Having not visited for a number of years, the refubished restuarant and bar has been nicely done. Not a roast, though they were available, but excellent fish and chips, accompanied by the house ale. We broke our journey in Newbury, which we'd never visited before. The King Charles Tavern was the first pub encountered, so in we went.We were greeted warmly by Kealey and given the opportunity to sample the ale before buying, a practice that should be more widespread. We were offered the choice of the bar or the small dining area behind, which we took. The food was freshly cooked, hot and of sensible portions. Being too full for a dessert, we forced down another half of the King Charles Ale!It's nice to find somewhere we'd head for if we found ourselves in Newbury again. Highly recommended.

We booked a table for two for a relaxing Friday evening. Lovely quirky gastro pub in a nice setting. Food was nice but too experimental and lacked the quality a Michelin starred establishment would provide. Our main criticism is that the staff seemed to be on another planet, minimal engagement or positivity. At one point we felt the plates were just dumped in front of us which seemed abit rude. I can totally appreciate the stresses of a busy restaurant but there were only two table occupied (including ours) and the whole environment lacked atmosphere and occupation.

A long standing coaching inn looking forward with traditions from the past, we look to do good food cooked well. we cook dishes from our life and most will tell a story.
Myself and my partner visited here the initial thought was just wow itâs a lovely building very nice inside and out! Greeted by very friendly staff. We chose to sit outside and we werenât disappointed the garden was beautiful and well set out with light music in the background. We had read a few reviews before about portion sizes but went ahead anyway and true to others words they were huge. My partner had a cheese and mushroom roll and I went for the chicken goujons which my partner had to help me finish. Onto the main my partner had a wonderful steak which he thoroughly enjoyed, I had the Thai chicken burger and wow it was amazing it looked and tasted fantastic! Pudding was a do we or donât we as we were quite full by this point. Other diners were having pudding and my partner said I donât care how full we are we have to have a pudding! He had a cheesecake and I had Eton mess and they were equally as lovely as the rest of the meal.

A free house, serving locally sourced quality pub food, ales and wines.
A family get-together for my wifeâs 70th Birthday comprising 5 Adults, 2 Children and a 9month old granddaughter. The staff were delightfully helpful, allocating us a table in a quiet part of the dining room, help mounting some birthday decorations and providing a high chair. Our meals were well-priced, beautifully cooked and presented. The meat dishes were superb using beef, lamb and pork from the best butcher in Newbury - Griffins. And try the most tasty Scotch Eggs Iâve ever tasted. The pub is clean and tidy and situated in easily accessible near Newbury. Compliments to the locals in the pub who were friendly, hospitable and even joined in our singing of Happy Birthday! Highly recommended
