Based in the picturesque village of Roughlee near Nelson sits this lovely cosy pub. After surviving a kitchen fire in 2016 this quaint village came together and restored this beautiful building to its former glory. Harvesting the finest seasonal produce s
Love this place. The food is always great, served by friendly staff and the atmosphere is homely with a choice of three different areas, each with its own character. The real ale is always spot on, and most importantly, itâs dog friendly with water bowls and treats around.

Four of us dined here as itâs usually consistently good quality food at a reasonable price with great service. Unfortunately this time although the service was the usual good standard the food wasnât. Two of us had duck with red cabbage and dauphinoise potato. My duck was chewy and raw in the middle.... which Iâm prepared to accept as I like mine quite pink but the fat had not been rendered and the skin wasnât crispy.... in fact it was blubbery. The duck had obviously not been cooked properly and rested. The potato was not cooked through in the middle which meant I only ate the outside slices. My friend asked for a steak knife to separate the fat from the meat on her duck. Lots of waste on my plate which is a bit of a shame when you are paying for a full plate of edible food. Hopefully this was just a bad day in the kitchen. Our other two meals.... fish and chips and sea bass were fine.

We came on a Saturday night after hearing great reviews of the pub. My partner booked the table for 7:30 for when she finished work. Upon arrival we were greeted by a rude waitress who basically blamed us for messing up the booking even though they had written the wrong time. After which the service then received was awful and very slow and it was as if we were an inconvenience for them. The food was okay but not worth the price and service to be honest. Will not be returning
