Find out what Gastropub restaurants to try in Graz. A bevy of universities give Austria's second-largest city its lively pace. Baroque palaces are a pleasant contrast with 16th-century courtyards and provocative modern buildings. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, teems with fine architecture, including the Burg castle complex, with its Gothic double staircase, and the graceful Uhrturm clock tower. A funicular takes visitors up the dramatic bluff. The River Mur dashes through the city, and thermal springs dot the surrounding countryside.

If you love whiskey this should be your first choice. Must be more than 100 kinds including moonshine. The owner is a passionate bagpiper and knows everything about whiskey his own creation is the famous egglander ...you have to try it. Musik is nice and every Wednesday they have live karaoke. Great fun .

âZur Schmiedânâ is situated directly at a busy street in a rather ugly part of town. Neither this nor its spacious parking lot should scare you away. Although the restaurant is large, this does not make itself felt given that it consists of several rather small dining rooms. The decoration of this restaurant is rustic to the utmost, which provides a great atmosphere. Nonetheless, this is an elegant restaurant with white tablecloths on top of the colored ones, carefully selected glasses and the like. The menu changes by the day and according to season but comprises also a few traditional dishes that are permanently available. It offers only a limited choice, is devoted exclusively to Austrian cuisine and meat-heavy. At the evening of our visit, it did not even comprise a single vegetarian dish. However, if you can live with that, chances are good that you will appreciate eating here. Service was attentive and swift, and the waiting times for our main courses were reasonable. Portion sizes were large and, most importantly, everything tasted fine.In contrast to the fairly small choice of main courses the number of desserts to be had was larger than is usually the case in comparable restaurants. Prices were mixed, with some main courses astonishingly cheap while a few other dishes seemed a bit pricey. However, seeing that âZur Schmiedânâ is a classy restaurant, prices were on average perfectly fair.

We were walking around looking for somewhere for dinner when we saw this place, an attractive courtyard drew us in. What a lucky find, this is an extremely good restaurant. We were warmly welcomed, bread and menu quickly arrived. Our food was so very good, quality ingredients perfectly prepared. The wine was excellent, too. Although we had eaten our fill the dessert menu was too tempting - wow! Without a doubt we will visit this restaurant again. The courtyard is perfect in hot weather and I imagine dining inside in colder weather will be just as good. The cost for 2 main courses, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine was About 100 euros - a fair price for the service and quality.

A very pleasant business dinner at this restaurant. A very nice and cozy atmosphere with waiters that showed high degree of service level and smiled :)Mixed salad was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The Wienerschnitzel was very good and classy at the same time different. Their local Sauvignon Blanc did add remarkably to the meal.

Typical styrian restaurant with saisonal kitchen, local meat, local vegetables, local fruits, desserts, white wine, red wine, local schnaps, please make a reservation!!!!!
In a quiet street on the other side of the Mur river, this excellent tavern serves very good traditional Austrian food and beer in very comfortable and relaxed surroundings, with a smile. I can particularly recommend the schnitzel and the carpaccio. Portion sizes are typically large and the restaurant is good value for Austria.
