In the peninsula there is a road from Tijuana to La Paz: Between neighborhoods and seas, ovens in deserts scrubs like burners, you roast the clam Chocolata, the marlin is smoked, the Dinner guests rejoice. And today in the cool forest, under the Tepozteco
We were sent here by the owners of La Gartija Mezcal Club and oh, what a great place! Dining is in a nice outdoor setting, but the food is what's so outstanding. We went here twice and the first night had a delicious pork rib dish with a dark mole sauce. Along with this we had the duck carnitas, which were moist and succulent. We also ordered the Cesar salad, made right at the table. Fantastic. The second night we had fish dishes: a wonderful grilled octopus and also a Baja style fish. There is a nice selection of wine, also. Wait staff are very professional. One of the nice touches is they grow their lettuce leaves right in the dining room, so the sous chef comes and picks them fresh right in front of you!Agradecemos mucho sus comentarios y sobretodo nos complace aun mas, que ustedes la hubiesen pasado tan bien entre nosotros. Esperamos pronto verles de nuevo en este rinconcito de México
PROs: - Authentic Mexican food- Lovely and quaint atmosphere- Very clean- YUMMY flavors- Half the price of the restaurants in the center of town. [Only $4 US per meal] It's amazing what you can find when you walk an extra 100m away from the tourist strip :)CONs:- None that I can think of. Really worth checking out.My girlfriend and I just stayed in Tepoztlan for 2 weeks, and happened to stumble across this place while walking down a side street from the town center. The bright orange interior caught our eye, and we decided to eat there our 1st night in town. Lucky us!El EsTragon is run by a mom with her son as the cook, and they do a GREAT job of providing authentic local food with tons of flavor. I highly recommend trying the green chili enchiladas and the chicken with tamarind salsa - both amazing. We went to a few of the bigger restaurants and cafes in the tourist center of town, and never enjoyed the food quite as much as here. And with dishes costing ~60-70 Pesos ($4-5 US) per person, it's about half the cost of those bigger restaurants. There are only 5 tables inside, it always feels welcoming and cozy, and the family is always so excited to have you back.Check it out and make this place popular :)
Only place in tepoztlan with Very good asian food, in a very nice plaza. Several options for vegetarians and gluten free dishes.
We went for dinner on an off night and literally had the restaurant to ourselves. We sat out on the patio overlooking the garden right next to the fireplace. What a great night. The service was just right - even though we were there alone, the staff was not overbearing and showed up at the table at just the right times.I had the ceviche al pastor, which was really good. For dinner, the salmon was perfectly spiced and cooked - I'm not sure I've had better. My companion had the lasagna - it was good, a mexican versus italian version, but still good.Azul Violeta is also a small hotel. The grounds are well kept and the interior of the restaurant and hotel area is very, very nice. It is a little hard to find - the street numbering is off and the pin on the TA map is not in the right place (it is on de Los Sauces, but down further on the block between Aniceto Villamar and Albino Ortega). However, the phone number on the TA site is accurate, and they very helpfully "talked us in" when we couldn't find it. I hope to stay there next time I'm in Tepoztlan.
