Where to eat British food in Chagford: The Best Restaurants and Bars

Having read the reviews our expectations were relatively high. However, we suffered disappointment on every front (save that the wine list was OK). We visited on a Saturday night with friends. The place was full (although it has a very small number of covers) which ought to be a good sign. The premises are gloomy and dated and are devoid of any character. It would take so little effort to give it a lick of paint, put some interesting pictures on the walls and replace the dreadful net curtain at the front window. The food was distinctly average and poorly presented for the most part. The service was about as charmless as it is possible to get. No warmth, no feeling of welcome and I don't think we saw a smile all evening. I get that some people (quite a lot in fact) seem to find this place charming but I just didn't get it. I am surprised that in today's environment this place has survived ...

We visited the Seven Stars on a recommendation and we were not disappointed. It is a vibrant village pub with an excellent dining room.Staff were really friendly and explained the menu and specials. There are some really great options - we had a burger, fish and chips, monk fish (special) and scotch eggs. All were cooked perfectly and served with a smile. The decor is perfect, tables well spaced and there is a lot of natural light. Outside there is a generous number of tables and a good car park.book and you won't be disappointed.
