We eat out on most visits to this area. We have invited friends along to eat with us and had some really poor meals trying all resturants locally until we found this gem. Chef is real quslified and knows what he is doing, the host is his wife speaks a little english and likes to banter.. Made us welcome every time and food 5 star. .. We told them about thin leathery steaks and they took it on board 13euros for large entrecote with veg of yr choice included. Most others just chips 20 euros.. Veg extra and in not edible.. Also within a km a very good b n b and campsite open all year...

We returned twice to this restaurant with locally sourced food and a warm friendly atmosphere. The food was excellent as was the outdoor seating where we could encounter village life.
On a prominent corner in the city center. Excellent food and service - a brasserie, but the photo of it shows La Renaissance Cafe as the name.
We've been stopping at this quaint little Café for a handful of years now on our return trip from the Le Mans 24hrs Race but this year added it to our outward trip also. Ownership seems to have remained the same and we are welcomed by the same manager and staff on every trip. The food is good as is the service, it's reasonably priced and never disappoints. Being overhauled a year or so back its interior has been made more City type café than before but remains a great place to stop and relax. Ample free parking is only a short walking distance and the town its self has bucket loads of History and character for exploration.

Popped in for a drink as we were having a walk round. The lady behind the bar was really nice. The prices are great, not expensive at all. Nice outdoor and indoor seating

We were told the restaurant was full when it was almost empty. the young girl who 'welcomed' us called a manager/owner who looked me up and down (I was wearing shorts) and looked at me with contempt. A smile and something about dress code would have been sufficient and much more polite and dignified.

Great traditional french lunch stop close to motorway (A84) near Caen. Bustling with french workers and good value at E9.60 for two courses. About 5 choices for each course mostly homemade. Not fine dining but good and tasty and unlike anything you can find in England especially at this price.

Leaving early from our hotel in Normandy, I was looking for a gas station and a bakery to buy some breakfast. Pulled off on a exit and drove for about a mile. Saw several bakeries but then we spotted this non-descript establishment. The six of us walked in to a bar with tables to our right. Owner said to be seated and someone would be with us. I think it was his wife who took our order. Most of us had the omelets with ham, onions, tomatoes and such.Coffee was great. The food came out in shifts. We think that she only had one or two frying pans that could handle the omelets. The orders were about 2-3 minutes apart which was no big deal. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. One of the best breakfast meals we had on our four country trip. Our waitress was very helpful and could speak some English but communicated with us very well. Would definitely eat there again if we ever come back this way. Thanks a lot, it was a pleasure

Delighted to have visited this traditonal bistro on the outskirts of Villers-Bocage...I thought places like this had long diappeared. We called in one Friday lunchtime to find the place crowded with diners and those waiting to dine in this compact two-storey restaurant. Others arrived after us but were turned away - booking would therefore seem advisable unless you are prepared to eat outside with a view of the main road. After a short wait we were found a table and enjoyed a simple but delicious three-course lunch from the 13 Euro fixed menu. Service was brisk but friendly and the atmosphere was vibrant - mainly local workers and groups of friends enjoying their lunch break. Total bill for two including drinks (beers, cider and wine) and coffees to finish was 45 Euros. Outstanding value and a memorable lunch experience.
