This restaurant is worth a visit if you are in the area. From the moment we arrived the service staff were attentive and made us feel comfortable. Aperos on the terrace with some delightful canapes. Our meal was very good, the chef cooks well and adds a twist to the plate. Looking forward to a return visit.

Uzerche is a notable Ville Etape (stopping place worth a detour) just off the A20 autoroute in Correze. It extends for several kilometres along the Vezerre valley, and is made up of small neighbourhoods (or quartiers). This can make it frustrating for people who look in vain for its 'town centre.' But it is worth persisting, because there are some real discoveries to be made here. One is Au Fil du Temps. It was well known for years as Chez Denise, where you could get a very decent, good-value lunch. Then it went through a bad patch. Now it has risen in glory, having been taken over by the former proprietor of the Cabin de Pieron in Treignac. He is a hard-working patron, who understands what French lunch-goers want, and who has employed a talented young chef who produces securely executed cooking. When I was here, last week, the place was packed with locals (which is all you need to know, really). I gather it is the same most days. The set menu on weekday lunchtimes at 14 euros is excellent value. A self-service buffet of hors d'ouvres is imaginative, with piles of dry-cured ham and other charcuterie, home-made terrines which you cut for yourself, fish, a comprehensive selection of salads, and plenty of condiments. There is a choice of plats du jour (my rabbit in cream and mustard sauce, accompanied by a vegetable ragout, was faultless), and cheese followed by a choice of three deserts (my roasted pear with a hazelnut crumble topping was to die for) and coffee. If I hadn't wanted the rabbit, I could have had roast pork or blanquette de veau. What's not to like? This is very much a rural town auberge, not a boutique restaurant. The decor is comfortable but basic. That didn't seem to bother my fifty-odd fellow diners who made a bee-line for this place before 12.30 on the same day I was there. The service is efficient and courteous, and the patron makes time to engage with his customers. This is a superb snapshot of La France Profonde. The lunch menu is a few Euros more at weekends, but not expensive. It is a nice place to have coffee on the front terrace, especially when Uzerche's small but perfectly formed market is taking place just across the road on Saturdays.

After a long day working, all I wanted to do was have some dinner and some wine then get an early night. After walking for what seemed miles, I was starting to panic as everywhere was shut. If you are hungry on a budget and near Uzerche this is the place to head for. For little over 11 Euros you can feast on good home made soup, ham and vegetables, quail, a selection of good cheeses and a selection of tarts or sorbets. Obviously the menu varies from day to day. No good being in a hurry as the quarry workers get priority but you should be out after one and a half hours. The toilet facilities are very good and the restaurant is spacious and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. In the vicinity is a dolmen and the village is also attractive with little parks for a pre/post prandial stroll.

The whole place was buzzing when we arrived, and every table full - two good signs. Staff quickly found a space for us, and were friendly throughout. Simple starters [a choice from half a dozen], followed by the best Toulouse sausages all thee of us had ever eaten. How did the chef get them browned yet not tough on the outside? The veg was what we called pease pudding, remembered from our childhood; unexpectedly, we all went for seconds. The mains came on a platter for us to help ourselves - enormous portion, which we couldn't finish, even though we enjoyed it all. Good choice of desserts - two of us had strawberries and the other chocolate mousse. All good. This is a typical unpretentious rural restaurant, serving honest local food. we loved it.

We think this restaurant got everything all but right. Wr visited on the evening of the temperature record-breaking day for France. We sat at the top of the interior courtyard. Service was immediate and friendly. A fork which was dropped was scooped up and relaced in a flash. The food is really good; very well cooked and excellent presentation. Very good choice of wines by the half bottle. One disappointment. We were early enough to have taken a table by the large open doorway in the hope of catching some breeze. But right there was an inconsiderate person and his cigarillos. Why on earth a smoker was given this prime spot escapes us. He could have sat out in the yard under an umbrella where his foul habit wouldn't have been to the annoyance of others.

Dined with three other friends. Chose dishes from both menus. All very pleasant. Nothing earth-shaking but good quality. Service good. Attentive despite being full. Very reasonable prices for wine backed up by solid advice.Stunning views across the Vezere river from the terrace.Excellent ambiance - definitely "the" place to take someone for a special occasion.
