Le Relais du Grand Bournais is located in Northwestern outskirts of Thouars at the D938 road.Driving down the road we decided for Le Relais du Grand Bournais for lunch as the restaurant was packed with locals and truckers. We were not disappointed. Food is better than average. The restaurant has a huge free parking. The basically furnished & decorated restaurant offers unpretentious dishes. Service is quick, adequate and friendly. The menu includes a buffet of starters, a choice of four hot dishes, a cheese buffet and a dessert buffet. Drinks are included (wine, cidre, sparkling water, lemonade). We recommend Le Relais du Grand Bournais to anyone who seeks OK food for a very acceptable price.

Pretty good food, reasonable value for money and friendly service. I am told the pizzas are pretty good as well but not being a pizza person myself I cannot vouch for this!Their Entrecote frites, however, has to be one of the best in this part of France. Also well suited to a family or group outing, something for almost everyone on the menu.

Six of us were booked in for lunch on a busy Friday market day. We sat outside and were served by two really helpful waiters, one whose good English compensated for and faults in our French. We had several different plats de jour and all were faultless and really enjoyable. A good chilled Anjou rosé helped the meal along. One warning, the crême brulée are so enormous and brilliant they will change your perception about what a crême brulée should really be about.

We are still managing to get to this lovely traditional restaurant almost every Friday. The quality of their 'Menu de Jour' is just so good. Last friday we both had a Strasbourg salad to start (not the slimey stuff you get in the supermarkets, but homemade and delicious), followed by a fillet of cod with its accompaniments and beuatifully creamy rice pudding - that is â¬12,40 per person. Plus the 2 beers, 50cl of Anjou red and two coffees to wake me up for my french lesson in the afternoon. â¬39. We finally had to opt for sitting inside this time, as the temperatures have just started to drop, but it was cosy and pleasant. The chap who seems to serve most Fridays does an absolutely fantastic job and makes customer service seem effortless. I did notice that most of the tables had a reserved notice on them, so we have booked in for next Friday just to be sure to get in!

This restaurant is unusual as it is state funded with the objective of helping disadvantaged people into work. The Maitre D' has been there many years and is a real pro, training his charges as it goes along without any deterioration in service or the food. We were 5 for lunch (the youngest only 2 years old). We ate on the terrace in good shade on a very hot sunny day. The 3 course menu at lunchtime is fixed except for the main course where there is a choice from 2 options. We all enjoyed the food and they brought a special dish for the 2 year old, bringing it to the table early (a nice touch) and did not charge for it. I had the duck for the main course which was beautifully cooked (fairly rare) and presented. The wine list is good and varied but we stuck to the local Loire Valley wines for both the red and white following the Maitre D's recommendations. The pace of service was very good and took account of the restlessness of the 2 year old. I have eaten here many times over the last 25 years and as usual I was not disappointed. The bill at 250 euros was very reasonable.

We stayed over for a night and had supper there. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable and friendly. There is nothing I could com plain about. But I want to add that the hotel is also a great deal. The rooms are sufficiently spacious, the bathroom clean and ofmamgoodmsize. Ther is air con, the bed is nice and firm. If you have to stay in THouars on your way to another destination, this is a must stip!

We tried the restaurant on recommendation of a friend, and it was even better than we'd hoped. It's a very clean modern setting with a friendly welcome, the tiniest smattering of English and a very French approach to an evening's dining. Don't expect to be in and out in time to see a show, but relax, savour the flavours and presentation of the excellent good. Easy on street parking outside and a variety of menus to fit appetite and budget. Some days there's a lunch menu and a cheaper bistro menu on quiet days of the week. Check online for details.

After a long very hot day cycling our chambre d'hotes recommended this place. They were spot on. Good food, well cooked and really helpful service (we had four refills of the water carafe to the waitress's ongoing amusement). Restaurant was reasonably busy for mid-week but did not feel crowded or noisy. If I lived in Thouars I'd be happy to eat here often.
