I came for the famed Hida steak, and Le Midi actually offered various flavors and grades. In addition they offer a fairly extensive menu covering a wide price range. I tried the A4 grade steak lunch set (150g) which set me back about 8000 yen. Steak was tasty with nice texture, whether it was worth the price tag was another issue. Service was excellent, and the sides and the soup were also very good. Overall a very good dining experience.

We had the chefs menu, the most tender hida beef which melts on yourpallet, homegrown fresh vegetables, fresh pumkin soup all very tastefull! Kenichi and Asami Shimizu are enthousiatic family owner whith a passion for taste. Kenichi is also creative in re using champagne bottle tops into design mini chairs. A visit to this restaurant is worthwhile!

We offer seasonal vegetables, fresh sea food, and very popular "Hida-gyu"(well-known as"Hida-beef")with French-Japanese cuisine by "Teppan-yaki"style. "Teppan-yaki" is a way of Japanese cuisine by cooking on a hot iron griddle in front of you. Please comgort
We discovered this charming restaurant on our walk back to the parking lot. It is located a bit off the main (walking) paths of old town Takayama. We reserved a table for dinner but on a Sunday night during the off peak season, there were only two tables ( including ours). We expected teppan dinner. And it was teppan with a French twist. The taste itself for what we ordered bordered on the ordinary but the presentation was indeed a work of art. The best deal would be the set menu; unfortunately , it is totally beef...not even Hida pork was offered for teppan. All else must be ordered a la carte... and for a price. The prawn teppan was 1700 yen and to our shock came with one nicely decorated "small" prawn. We hurriedly ordered two bowls of mushroom fried rice ( 750 yen each) and fried rice with foie gras ( 1700 yen); salad was quite delicious and colorfully presented ( 1700 yen); two pieces of bread(250 yen). The best a la carte deal is probably the fish of the day: fresh and tasty. For dessert we ordered opera cake ( pretty good, not sweet)and vanilla ice cream ( so so). A nice experience but quite expensive.

Such a quaint cafe. We came for breakfast and sat on the 2nd floor. The staff are super friendly and the crepes are the best! Coffee was good too. There was a breakfast special for only 500yen that included toast, jam, caramel bananas ham and eggs? and coffee- excellent value.
