The service impeccable. The wine.. Overpriced. The food.. Pretentious but tasty. On Rodrigues the local tastes and food have a uniqueness that could be exploited and fusioned using more imagination. Simple local food fairly priced, served with flair, would attract locals as well as the odd tourist looking for that extra touch.Empty tables will not pay the bills, but as a change to local fare, if you can afford it, why not. Traditional food in such relaxing atmosphere closed to nature...wonderful scenery of the valley...enjoyed the food as it was the owner who cooked for us...taking care of our tastes...even let me to visit her traditional kitchen..warm welcome from her and her spouse!!

Cafe Rose was situated on the main road leading out of Port Mathurin Rodrigues, but the owner moved to the ground floor of her pretty home. i ordered a vegetarian salad and was served a plate full of fresh boiled egg, cheese, beetroot, potato, tomato and lettuce with some green pepper. It was delicious! We ordered tiramisu, again a delicious cake and the trifles are highly recommended. Despite there being no fresh milk on the island, the Latte coffee was good and milk shake is also on the menu. I love this place, the garden has a beautiful tree that attracts indigenous birds, a truly lovely place to relax with a coffee and cake of your choice.
