If you dont stop in Braslou on the D20 after leaving Richelieu, you are likely to miss on a simple gastronomic experience. The unelaborate exterior and the front Bar with the large number of Football Trophys on proud display do not prepare you for the size of the interior dining area, not for the quality of the food. Each visit to this corner of the Loire Valley, has included at least one meal of Moules Frites of a quality and quantity and price I have never experienced elsewhere.Roquefort is my favourite of the 10 flavours closely followed by Moules in a Safran sauce, the only one currently over 10 euros. Our male friends have been more than satisfied by the huge servings, and never ending supply of fat fresh "french fries". Bruno is also a dab had at all sea food and traditional local food. But my man and I can neve bypass the Mussels when they are in season, accompanied by a little pitcher of local wine. The mussels are as knuckle sized and tender, not at all like the large rather leathery mussels of Australia To our disgrace we have occasionally forgotten that Chez Bruno is closed on Wednesday.

We recently stayed near Richelieu and booked this restaurant at very short notice. They do not open if there are no bookings. We had an excellent supper, beautifully cooked by Madame. Herbs and vegetables fresh from the garden. Delicious desserts and generous cheese board. The wines chosen for us were local and extremely reasonable Simple ,attractive surroundings and a warm welcome from our hosts. We would make a detour to go back to this restaurant

Mondays & Tuesdays in Richelieu mean almost nowhere open for dinner. This place looked open but actually closing at 7.30 p.m. However, monday evening 3rd. October we managed to get them to cook us chicken and chips which tasted very good. Local rosé was sadly a poor example. Everything else looked closed again the following (Tuesday) night so we tried this brasserie again hoping for steak & frites or something: no such luck despite being there at 7p.m. Different woman on duty told us pretty curtly they were closing and offered no help. We're due back in Richelieu soon but won't bother this place again. Happily a french "local" told us of another bistro still open......

We stayed here end of August for a night . Pleasant enough at check in . No cars allowed so you park up and move your belongings via a cart to your room / apartment . We stayed in a standard size and it was tiny . We are 2 adults and 2 kids . Travelled light but even then hardly much circulation space . When you open the toilet door you can't open the bedroom door and vice versa . Felt very claustrophobic . One small double room and sofa bed w a pull out . Not sure how people would manage for a week in such a setting . Can't comment on the pool etc as we spent all our time out . Maybe the space is the normal for France but way too cramped !

Unpretentious restaurant/bar at the "other" end of the Grande Rue in the Place des Religieuses. Plenty of free parking on the square - at least on our visit. You go through to an old fashioned dining area, which is recenently decorated and spotless. There you will find the locals who appreciate the incredible value and good food available. â¬13.50 for a starter, main course, dessert, wine and coffee. Two choices for each of the food courses which are simple and well cooked. The price doesn't seem to have changed in a while, looking at earlier reviews. Efficient service. The only thing changed from the good old days is that very few of the diners touched the wine, which is almost certainly due to France's draconian drink-driving laws rather than the quality of the wine.

We just needed a little lunch on the Saturday during the European Cadillac Car Rally we were attending here, and this was right next to the ancient fish market, where we had been entertained to fizz and nibbles by the Mayor and other dignitaries.Unpretentious meal under the trees on a raised platform in this quaint square just off the main square, and there is a small restaurant inside. Good and busy, and the epitome of Frenchness. Steaks for each of us, just a little rare than we would have preferred, even though we asked for medium, expecting rare, but not "bleu". Probably as well to ask for "bien cuit" next time. Tasty, though, and quickly served.

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Saumur, but almost everything about the experience was disappointing - both the service and the food. We were ignored for at least 20 mins before we were even given a menu, and kept wondering if we should go and remind them we were there. There were 4 of us, and we were given no bread or water until we actually given our food, and then only one very small piece for each of us, there was great consternation when we asked for more! 3 of us had the guacamole with crevettes, for the starter, which didn't taste like any guacamole I had ever tasted before, (very strange!) It didn't get very much better as the meal went on. We live in France, and are used to so much better for the price. We definitely chose badly on this occasion.

Popped in for lunch as we were traveling through, and v handy for the park nearby. One of the best meals on our long holiday so far. Opted for the set lunch, and was 15E for 3 course meal. All courses sublime. Must visit if in the area. Desserts in the picture (no idea what they were called, although she mentioned a floating meringue).
