Nice local food and the choice offered was hungry or not. Service was very authentic also. Liked it very much.

We couldn't believe our luck in finding this place - and re-finding it the following night, too!Auberge Obschel is wonderfully remote, superbly relaxed and utterly without pretence. It's just a great, laid-back restaurant in a characterful cabin deep in the woods. The service is incredibly friendly, the food is simple and delicious, and the local wines are excellent too.On a nice night, you can sit out on the picnic benches and gaze up at the stars (no light pollution around here!) and on a colder eve, the interior is cosy and comfortable. We would have happily returned for a third night if we could have done. As a Londoner, this is the kind of place you dream of - great value, wonderfully relaxing, and delicious, honest food and wine. Highly recommended.

Located up a winding mountain track, this is a very traditional restaurant with a German/Austrian feel to it. Very limited English is spoken there. All dishes were meat apart from an omelette. Only one red or white wine offered by the glass (lots of options of bottles though). A good place for basic traditional meat fayre with ambience of âhuntingâ life - stuffed animals, stag skulls etc on the wooden log cabin like walls. Average prices. (My omelette was fabulous - light and fluffy but quite small though!)

We are a couple from New Zealand along with a couple from Belgium. We meet somewhere in France every two years and always try to find a great restaurant for our last night together. To find such a restaurant in a small village was a surprise to us. The food was superb. We were a little surprised the person serving us, having heard us speak English, presumed we didn't speak French. I have to say, she was right in my case, but not my husband, and of course our Belgium friends speak very good French also. However her English was excellent and she was very pleasant. It is good when hotel staff speak English, but it is also nice for us to try our French. Mind you they probably get annoyed when we don't speak it very well, but we feel it is polite for us to at least try.I had chicken with spatzle in a wine sauce, my husband had Red mullet, one of our friends had salmon and the other the local fish. Everything was cooked to perfection. It was a very nice meal to end the last night with our friends. A must to try if you are ever in Orbey.

We'd stayed here twice before and were always very happy with the meals, so after a 6 hour drive from Paris, we were really looking forward to dinner. Well, the folks on demi-pension are now offered a fixed 3 course menu. However, if you don't like the choices, you can pay 3 euros more and go with the 37 euro menu -- or more for a more expensive menu. We opted for the demi-pension offering of salade avec chevre chaude, entrecote of boeuf, and banana crepes with chocolate sauce, though one of us got the trois munsters instead of dessert, which they kindly substituted. All were nicely done, except for the beef. Instead of being on a par with rib, rib-eye, or Delmonico, it was right down there below the low-priced offerings of a chain steakhouse in the US. A fourth was gristle left on our plates (yes, it was consistent). We don't normally eat beef in France, so I don't know if this is typical of entrecote, but given that there's normally a 5 euro supplement for this offering, I doubt it. Our aperitifs and wine were quite nice -- cremant d'Alsace and a 2011 Saumur Champigny Les Tuffes, both reasonably priced. Our dinner the next night was very nicely prepared and presented: Foie gras de canard traditionnel, daurade with spaetzles maison, and tiramisou (my wife had the 3 Munsters again). With it we had a nice cremant from Ribeauville. Service was friendly & professional. I haven't downgraded them for the beef, because on the whole, they really do a wonderful job, but I felt I had to make the comment for those accustomed to steaks in the US. Next time I'd pay the 3 euros more and avoid the entrecote.

We followed a recommendation by a local resident to stop in here for lunch. No one spoke English so we took our chances by ordering the 3 course lunch special. Wow.. Did we get our $$$ worth. We thought salad was our entree it was so full of meats. Then we had a seafood stew followed by 3 delicious sorbets.Waiter was great, even with the language barrier!

Nobody recommended us this place neither consulted this site looking for a restaurant; this was completely a free exploring thing....Located in the mountains; has a nice terrace where to have drinks with mountains view; farm animals (pigs, goats); indoor restaurant is pretty, cozy, comfy; there was a closed area which afterwards we learned that was the mezzanine dining area.We had some escargots (6 at 6.50), salad (6.50), lamb shanks (18.50), potatoes with grated Munster cheese (13.00), menu enfant (10.00 each). Is simple honest food; everything great, delicious, the gratin Munster with potatoes remained hot for long (and I'm a slow eater) The small ones appreciated so much the kids menu; when we look the pictures at home they said that in that place they had their best food in our Alsatian trip.In this restaurant we had the most welcomed, warmed and friendly service; a truly nice escape from civilization!

We visited Auberge du Lac Noir whilst on holiday this year. Our party consisted on 2 adults and 4 children. The food and service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the price very reasonable. TThe Auberge is in a beautiful setting near the top of a mountain. Whilst we were there it seemed to be a great place for walkers to drop into.I would thoroughly recommend this Auberge to anyone visiting the area.

Whilst the food we had here was perfectly adequate, our evening was completely ruined by the dreadful service and poor attitude shown by the waiting staff. We sat down and ordered at 7.20 and by 9.00, having had our starters, were still waiting for our main courses. When they finally came I expressed (politely) our dissatisfaction, but again we ended up waiting to have those plates cleared away and the offer of dessert. By this time it was too late and I eventually managed to catch the eye of the waitress who offered no apology and was really quite rude in her manner, She said they were busy (which they weren't), but in my experience and opinion, restaurants shouldn't have more covers than they can cope with, and should certainly be more polite when customers are understandably frustrated. The table next to us were having similar issues, and they also left without ordering dessert or more drinks.
