Reviews on French food in Hakone-machi, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Nestled in the mountains, Hakone's trains, trails, and gondolas showcase the breathtaking vistas of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, including close views of Mt. Fuji. The sulfurous steam from the region's volcanic activity fuels natural hot springs, the centerpieces of the many spas and resorts.

beautiful, quaint restaurant with a wonderful staff and exceptional food. Was a nice place to eat after taking a boat across Lake Ashinoko with breathtaking views. We were suppose to take the tram up the mountain however, there has been some volcanic activity and it was closed. Disappointed, yes but would rather be safe.

Horrible experience for tourists! The kitchen was unable to accomodate even one dish so it is suitable for vegetarians so while the rest of the table ordered the tasting menu our vegetarian guest had to watch!!!! We never experienced such a treatment in any restauantball over the world, not to speak about this price class. When paying, tourists were again discriminated - where the Japanese American Express Credit card was accepted without any issues, the non-domestic one was declined due to higher fees and we wer forced to pay with Visa...There is absolutely nothing to recommend, pure waste of time and money!

I understand why our excursion included lunch at the Le Trianon. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and has views of Lake Ashi just outside its windows. The restaurant is located in the Prince Hakone Ashinkoko Hotel. It also explains why our excursion was so expensive. This is a pricey French restaurant for very pretty and fresh food, beautifully presented but very small portions. I think it would have been more fun if we had a traditional Japanese meal instead. Service was very good but extremely slow, given that we were lunching with virtual strangers just interested in the same excursion, making conversation became very forced for such a long period of time. I would have preferred more time at the Hakone Open-Air Museum, our last stop for the day.

This restaurant is no longer French and now serves a variety of "Western" options - meat, vegetable, and fish dishes. With an open kitchen, long picture windows and a variety of textured walls, it has a lovely atmosphere. There is an area of open seating and another area of "rooms" which are ideal for family groups. There is a limited menu but it includes a good variety of dishes. The flavours and presentation of the food are excellent although the portions are not overly generous. The drinks, especially wine, are super expensive except for the beer which is much better value. The service was excellent and timely. There's a well-rounded children's menu and toddlers are offered excellent wooden high chairs. Families are welcome but I'd highly recommend advanced reservations from their website e-concierge giving the restaurant the opportunity to offer you one of the semi-private areas which are highly suitable for family dining. The restaurant can become busy and there are no restaurants within walking distance if you are staying in the hotel. You would need to take a taxi or the house car.Definitely worth a try if you are staying in the hotel.

We visited on a cold Monday evening when lots of places seemed closed. There was no one in the restaurant but we gave it a go and were glad we did. More people arrived to join us afterwards. Food was superb and good value. I had a seafood pasta which was delicious and my partner had a slow cooked pork dish which was divine. Would recommend and eat here again.

Here you can enjoy French cooking which incorporates both modern techniques as well as the traditions of French cooking at the Fujiya Hotel, while gazing out towards Mt. Fuji. â Breakfast(buffet style):7:30 am to 9:30 am â Lunch(buffet style):11:30 am to 3:
The restaurant is part of the Merveille Hakone Hotel. The hotel puts you in a traditional Japanese atmosphere with Kimono's for women and men and they have a nice onsen (hot spring bath). The dinner is also traditional Japanese. The staff is very good and attentive. The food was fresh and nicely presented. You get to try many different items and not all was to our liking. But its good to try everything. One warning. The breakfast is also traditional Japanese and was not to my liking. I just can't do smoked or pickled fish for breakfast. And I'm not a big fan of tofu.

I had a autumn luch course for 2500 yen. The food was excellent, waiters serve water at the right time and interior is cute. If you are stay around this french restaurant, I strongly recommend it for lunch. There's no need to enter the little prince museum.

We did not know what to expect. It turned out to be a superb experience. The food turned out to be great, service even better and we had a private room to ourselves.

ãtemporarily closed due to renovationsã This restaurant is housed in a Registered Tangible Cultural Property that was built in 1930, where diners may enjoy richly traditional French cuisine as they admire the paintings and carvings on the coffered ceiling
We were staying at the Fujiya so we decided to eat in the restaurant on one evening. We had booked with reception so were shown to the table immediately. We loved the style and ambience of the restaurant. For starters we chose the duck confit and the starter medley. The duck was flavoursome but usually confit is very well cooked and comes off the bone easily with crispy skin but this didn't and it was a bit of a fight to eat it (I would have picked it up if I wasn't in such a refined place). My husband's medley of starters was beautifully presented and they all tasted fine. For mains I had the beef stew which was rich and tasty but there was quite a lot of fat. There were noddles in the dish so the rice I ordered with it was unecessary, so I wish that the menu had mentioned the noodles. My husband's dish of seafood in a creamy sauce was nice but I tasted a scallop and it was overcooked. I was impressed with the glass of red wine I had. The service was pleasant throughout but we had to keep asking for water. We wanted to enjoy the meal more. We certainly didn't come to Japan expecting to find good french food, however given the prices charged I thought that the food should have been faultless. We loved the hotel but would not eat in the restaurant if we stayed again as we feel that it was overpriced for the quality. What a shame.
