Gros Islet, on the northern tip of St. Lucia, is a blossoming destination, at once remote and exciting.  The best way to explore the shoreline may be Island Riders, where riding veterans and beginners alike can trot along on horseback and chat with the locals.  The Jump Up street party, perhaps the most recognized of the town's attractions, is also a must for a taste of Gros Islet's unique blend of food and music.

We stopped in on this place without a reservation and had slightly underestimated how smart it was and my husband was a bit under-dressed though luckily it was quiet so it didn’t matter. The food was great and pretty reasonably priced for what it was and compared to other local restaurants which are all very expensive. I had the pear, celery and goats cheese tart which was delicious followed by the duck (also delicious) and the chocolate trio (good but not more than that). Husband had the soup/martini, steak and cheese which was all also delicious. We did find it a bit odd that throughout ABBA songs were played on what sounded like a Casio keyboard! It was at total odds with the fine dining experience! We will probably go again as there are other dishes that we also wanted to try! Good day valued customerThank you for taking the time to write such a positive review of our CHIC restaurant. We certainly appreciate you taking the time to recommend our restaurant to other travelers. We are happy to know that your experience was a memorable one and certainly look foward to welcoming you again in the near future.Kind regards, Beverley AntoineSales and Marketing Manager

We ate here during our St Lucia holiday (early in the trip) but it’s been a week land I can’t for the life of me remember the meal. I know we enjoyed it and found it worthwhile but I guess I had too much vacation. I have pictures of our evening and I know we thought about returning but clearly moved on to other things. It was fresh and delicious but perhaps forgettable? Not over the top but no disappointments or regrets.

The service was glacially slow. The shrimp was ok. The salmon wasn’t salmon. The NY STRIP was fatty and way undercooked. Despite this we were having fun as a family in this casual low key atmosphere especially being our last night of vacation. Very ready to let all other shortcomings go by but....when we asked for the bill I called our cab. Our 6:45 reservation had already stretched to after 9pm. Our cab showed up 5 minutes later but the bill didn’t come for almost 20 min. After being shocked that our only disappointing meal, in the least fancy place we visited on this beautiful island, wound up being our most expensive, I dutifully handed over my VISA card and was very surprised when the waitress asked for my PIN. I told her it was credit and 10min later she came back to tell me our card was “denied”. We are fortunate that our bank always calls on anything suspicious. They had called yesterday and we approved several St Lucia charges and they made note that we would be there this evening. She tried again. Came back to tell me Denied. I gave her an Amex Platinum. Didn’t “go through” but wasn’t Denied. I called our bank from the first Visa. They said nothing had been attempted on the card. I gave the phone to the cashier and she admitted this was “on their end”. Now had been over a half hour since we asked for the bill. Our local cab driver had to leave. The cashier spoke to the owner and the only response we got was that we needed to go get cash. No offer of any consideration for the more than one hour delay that their issue was going to cause us. I went and got cash and paid the bill, waited for my cab to finish its other appointment and left at about 10 pm. By the way, this is the only restaurant, hotel, or other service establishment that charged a 15% service charge (before tip) All others charge 10%. First time I have ever felt compelled to make a negative statement on TripAdvisor.
