Things to do in Coulommiers

Phenomenal food and excellent service. I took my family to Crêp'Mounette for dinner and dessert while visiting gîte du Clos Sébastien. It was a great experience. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town.

We have just had dinner here. We parked just around the corner and just came across it. There was only one person in the restaurant at 7:30, but by the time we left it was quite full. We hadnât booked a table. Itâs a contemporary looking restaurant, with red and grey interior. Everything is sparkling clean. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is extremely well presented and plentiful. Thereâs lots of food choices. Would definitely go here again. A great find in an unknown town.

play du jour is excellent value for two or three courses. Best to eat earlier rather than later as everything is freshly prepared and Madame has limited quantity of some choices. We ate here two nights running as a group of four and everyone enjoyed their menu choice each evening. Madame serves and Her partner cooks , he is a good chef! Basic brasserie but clean and very pleasant. Excellent atmosphere and staff and locals very pleasant.Well worth eating here for good quality freshly prepared food. The chips are excellent too!!

We booked a table for 6 (grandparents, parents and children aged 12 & 14) on the afternoon of our visit. We arrived early to an empty restaurant terrace but were warmly welcomed. We chose the fixed menu at â¬18 for three courses. We were a little concerned that we were the only ones there but we were not alone for long. The atmosphere and setting were very good but the food was outstanding. The set meal had only one selection for the starter and dessert, but two for the main. This was not a problem and we all cleared our plates; my 14 year old son was particularly enthusiastic. If you find yourself in or around Coulommiers you must try this excellent restaurant.

My two walking companions and I took the train from Paris to the end of the line at Coulommiers, then walked ten kilometers along the well-marked GR 14 hiking trail [660 kilometers long, it starts in Paris and ends at Malmedy, Belgium], through a forest and a vast field of retting flax until we reached the heart of Mouroux. Next to the town hall is the church of Saint Rémi; known as Saint Remigius in English, he was Bishop of Reims and baptized King Clovis I on December 24, 496, thereby firmly establishing Christianity as the religion of the Francs. Having read numerous positive comments online concerning the quality of the cuisine at La Chaumière, we were eager to try it for ourselves. Each chose the three-course, prix-fixe lunch for â¬14.00. For a starter, we all opted for the endive salad garnished with crumbled blue cheese and walnuts. Each chose a different main course; all were excellent: a pair of Saucisses de Bretagne, a white meat pork sausage served warm with a Port wine sauce; breaded turkey cutlet and roasted chicken. Desserts included Peach Melba, made with peaches and raspberry sauce with vanilla ice cream, created by Auguste Escoffier in honor of soprano Nellie Melba. Gilding the lily at La Chaumière was a laminated menu listing over 60 bottled ales, most the product of craft breweries and Trappist monasteries in France and Belgium, guaranteed to tempt and delight any beer-lover. I started with a Duchesse Anne, a triple bière de garde brewed by Bernard Lancelot at Roc St-André in Brittany, and followed with a dark, quadruple Rochefort Trappistes 10, produced by the monks at Rochefort Abbey in Belgium, without doubt one of the worldâs finest ales, scoring 100/100 on RateBeer.com. With a liter of sparking Badoit water and coffee, the check came to less than â¬65.00.

We had well-cooked homemade food here, exactly the sort of lunch we were looking for and the set menu was good value for money. The gésiers entrée was particularly tasty. The restaurant was quiet but with a pleasant atmosphere and local clientele. We liked the quirky posters and record covers on the walls. The patron was attentive and friendly in just the right manner; years ago he had been a foreign language student in Bournemouth, the home town of one of our party of four, which added to the good feeling!
