Hadnât booked but we were accommodated by the offer of sharing a table, which we did and had a very pleasant evening. Service wasnât very fast, but actually it didnât matter. Waitresses both spoke English. Opted for a menu de jour which was delicious and beautifully presented. The wine, recommended, was very good and not expensive. (Local Pinot noir). Had asparagus soup followed by guinea fowl which was a change from the menu but delicious.

Largely local produce. Bio where possible. Honest food, incredible value. Easy to eat a full meal with wine for under 25â¬. Don't expect posh nosh, but what it is good quality. Great frites as well.Service can get stretched at times, but always cheerful and helpful.

Excellent freshly cooked meal in small (10 table) restaurant. Good selection on menu and very friendly and helpful waitress. If you are in a hurry you will be disappointed!Recommended, we had Duck and Salmon, very tasty!

We had high hopes for our meal here in the lovely city of Bourges due to the mostly positive reviews on TripAdvisor but unfortunately we were the unlucky ones who did not receive good service. When we announced that two of our party were vegetarian this was not received well by the waiter. They were not prepared to make much compromise from the set menu of 5/6 main courses on offer - pasta with tomato sauce was offered, and because they only had one type of cheese available(!) which was goats cheese our vegetarians had to go without a main course! The osso bucco was nice as was the entrecote steak but I was expecting more than just mashed potato with it. The desserts were good and well presented but the service was not great unfortunately. The waiter's family came in (sounds like this is a regular occurrence) and he spent more time with them than serving us.For the amount we paid for the meal the food, service and overall experience was just not up to scratch, I hope the service can be improved in the future for other diners.

We have been to French restaurants. They are special. This one is a find. From the minute we came thru the door, we were in food heaven. The 1st course through to desert. It will be on our list to return. thank you sir for this as friendly advice, it was a pleasure to welcome you and introduce you to our kitchencordiallyDidier Guyot

Last year, during a tour of the chateaux and vineyards of the Loire Valley, we indulged ourselves and on three consecutive nights we ate at 3 Michelin * restaurants. By far our favourite of the three was The Cercle in Bourges and as we were driving through the region, we decided that a second visit was very much in order - I'm glad we did. Although the lunch service is of course very different to the evening tasting menu which we so enjoyed last time around, at 3 courses for 26 euros, Cercle's lunch menu is embarrassingly good value which included the best pea soup I have ever tasted. That was our starter which was followed by, for me, a minced lamb kofte-esque burger with a fondant potato. Whilst this was very good, my partner's black cod with a carrot puree and roasted fennel was exceptional. My meal concluded with a selection of cheeses whilst my partner had a crème brulee two ways (one coffee and one almond) which got the thumbs up. Whilst it is very difficult to compare an evening tasting menu with the set lunch (the lunch being a third of the price of the dinner), we are very glad we took the detour to Cercle and would gladly return for a third visit the next time we are anywhere close to Bourges.

We had such a nice dinner here tonight! The galettes were wonderful, cooked to perfection. The waiter and the cook were friendly and helpful, and spoke English to us (yay!)We will be in Bourges next week, and will go back to this little creperie to try different items (although that will be difficult, because we loved the ones we ordered!)

Lovely tea room run by an equally lovely lady. The place is set in a wonderful old vaulted room which is as almost as impressive as the cakes she makes and serves. A gem!

Subtly combining modernity and authenticity: slates, beautiful modern chandeliers, original lamps from diverted objects. The owner has given free rein to his creativity, between contemporary, authentic and industrial touches: good taste is at the rendezvo
We stayed stayed at the Ibis hotel which was close by and had lunch here on our first day in Bourges. Itâs a pleasant local eatery opposite Les Halles. After looking around town and TA for restaurants for dinner we ended up back here for two evenings. Itâs a lively little restaurant with good food and ambiance. The food is very good and good value. I highly recommend this restaurant but recommend you book for lunch or dinner. It gets very busy with locals. On Fri/Sat nights there is entertainment.Bonjour, Merci pour votre gentil avis. Au plaisir de vous revoir chez La Mere Poule. Toute l'équipe de La Mere Poule
