It appears on some days that Whanganui must have the cheapest and best quality fish'n'chips in New Zealand. George's provided a very nice and plentiful fish'n'chip meal for my wife, my son and I recently. We really found the fish, in particular, to be succulent.

There was a steady trickle of customers coming through when I visited here to get fish & chips for a Saturday night. However, not only were there walk-in customers like myself, there were also people coming in for orders that they had telephoned in earlier. As for my order of fish and chips, the fish was a good size, it was well cooked with a golden batter. The chips were also a good size with everything glowing hot and wrapped up in traditional newspaper parcels. There are many fish and chip outlets around town but this one is the best I have discovered so far.

The burger cartel graciously, and deliciously! Served up individually ordered burgers to the participants in the recent Art Jam at Space gallery. What a feed! And the great and generous burger on a fresh home baked style bun was accompanied by their fabulous signature "checkerboard" spiced fries! Amazing. I could be quite comfortable if this were the only meal on a day...wonderful meal!

If its worth going the extra disance - go to KFC Hawera!Here we had a long, long wait. Shortage of options at this time - no burgers available. Just reminder of why we dont have KFC - unless you would like "an oil change and grease"! Reviewed to staff with some positives re cleanliness but let down of value for money - VERY poor!
