Stonehaven (/stoʊnˈheɪvən/ ( listen); [stinˈhaiv] ( listen)) is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It lies on Scotland's northeast coast and had a population of 11,602 (Scotland's Census 2011). After the demise of the town of Kincardine, which was gradually abandoned after the destruction of its royal castle in the Wars of Independence, the Scottish Parliament made Stonehaven the successor county town of Kincardineshire. Stonehaven had grown around an Iron Age fishing village, now the "Auld Toon" ("old town"), and expanded inland from the seaside. As late as the 16th century, old maps indicate the town was called Stonehyve, Stonehive, Pont also adding the alternative Duniness. It is known informally to locals as Stoney.

A warm welcome on a very cold wet day, we ordered the Jumbo battered haddock, Scampi and chips, a pot of homemade garlic mayo, a pot of homemade tartar sauce, coffee and a coke. The haddock was very fresh, thick and tasty the batter thin and crispy . The Scampi were very fresh, but some were a little small as was the portion. Both sauces were very good. The member of staff who served us was very friendly and helpful. Overall a good experience very close to five stars only let down by the scampi size.

Visiting Stonehaven - never been before and decided on this Fish & Chip restaurant. We went there late afternoon. Both had Cod chips and mushy peas - absolutely delicious. The fish and batter were just right and a good portion. The mushy peas tasted as if they had been done properly from scratch - not just out of a tin.The young girl serving us was very good and we didn't have to wait long for our food (although we were the only ones in there at the time) - we liked the fact that they cook food to order which they tell you in the menu so you may have a wait. Pot of tea each - lovely cuppa! If we ever go to Stonehaven again we will definitely go to this place.

visited here around 22.10 , after returning from football in aberdeen went to our usual haunt " the carron but it had just closed . drove round to the square and found this place , ordered fish and chips + single fish first impressions were very good the place is immaculately clean staff knowledgeable and friendlythis is a multi cuisine venue and the menus are very varied our order was cooked to order was a good portion size , subsequently piping hot cooked well the chips not " frozen" and had a nice flavour fish was moist very tasty , moist good chunky portion i recommend this place highly and will return to try other items when we next have a evening game cost was reasonable just over £ 12 for our order
I have used this chip shop twice now but no more in farness the chips are reasonable but the fish is perhaps the worse I have tasted I very much doubt that it is fresh On both occasions the flesh was dry yet the batter was slimy additionally the staff were border line rude quick to take your money then ignored despite the fact strangly enough the shop was emptyIn short given the number of chip shops in Stonehaven use else where
