We wandered into Dawn Cafe not really knowing what to expect but it turned out that it is an authentic Maldives "tea house" frequented mainly by fishermen and locals, all very friendly. No tourists and no women around! We were helped by a really nice waiter who explained the different dishes. Fish curry: mild (?), spicy, chicken rice, fried noodles, fish balls, fish cakes, samosas. We were a group of 5 and therefore got to taste a little bit of everything. The best were the fish balls (really amazing!), but everything else was very tasty too. Be careful if you do not like spicy food though, even mild is not mild. My mouth was on fire. And.. try to avoid going to the bathroom. But the restaurant itself is clean and nobody got sick. The best part about this whole meal was really the experience. Surrounded by locals, we also had a taste of the ever-popular Beetle nut (interesting taste, to say the least), and a Maldivian tea (highly recommended). Not for the faint of heart, but if you want to get a real taste of life in Male, this is the right place to go. And the entire meal for all 5 of us with drinks was 17 USD! Open 7/7 and 24 hours a day!

In Guraidhoo you might find your hotel or B&B charges too much for food and if you are on a budget that might be bad. While that wasn't strictly my story I still didn't like the idea of forking over so much for lunch and dinner.Near Sunshine Lodge (where I was staying) I found Island Bite and discovered that they had good food at very cheap prices. Cost me around $10 for two people during lunch. Do keep in mind that Maldivians prefer spicy food so tell them to hold off on the chilli if you cant handle it.

I had what i think a sandwich which has the filling was called 'Black Beef' . This was a few weeks backs but its still on my mind, the service staff are quite courteous as well.Very chilled out atmosphere with great food and nice selection of drinks.

Wide variety of items on the menu including common continental dishes. All items were under seasoned perhaps intentionally. Dishes were mediocre in taste. Prices are steep considering practically all ingredients cannot be regionally sourced. A big let down when it came to taste although presentation was beautiful. The interior space, design and seating options were many with sofa and highchair dining tables.Staff are polite, attentive and friendly.

We stopped here for lunch while exploring Male and werenât disappointed.Well suitable overlooking the beach and the construction of the new bridge.We only had drinks and a light Roti lunch, but the food was tasty and service very friendly.I good place to chill and watch the world go by.

Pizzas are amazing. Love the variety of flavors and crust options. Love the hand tossed crispy golden thin crusts AND thick crusts are also light and airy. Great delivery service as well. Honey garlic chicken wings & garlic bread is perfect for takeout with pizza. Also, the peanut butter milkshake is heavenly. This small cafe' is also good for celebrations & you can book in advance. The location is also perfect with a good view, easy parking and just across the China-Maldives friendship bridge.
