The city was incorporated in March 1960. The population was 11,449 at the 2010 census, down from 11,536 at the 2000 census. It is often mistakenly thought to include the adjacent but unincorporated community of Rossmoor (population just under 11,000), which uses Los Alamitos as its mailing address. The Los Alamitos Race Course is also widely believed to be in the city; although it does have a Los Alamitos postal address and zip code, it actually lies in the neighboring city of Cypress.

I love the appetizers at this diner. You can't go wrong with the fried zucchini or the fried mushrooms. The zucchini are not too thin, but they're not an inch wide. The mushrooms are all medium sized mushrooms. Both are extremely good!My absolute favorite burger is there San Francisco burger. It is a thick burger on a toasted sourdough bread, with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and Thousand Island dressing. It is so, so, so good! Do not miss this gem!The staff is very friendly. Once you've taken your seat, after you've ordered, the staff will bring you your food. And never fear that your glass will ever be empty. The staff is very attentive and actually come around and offer refills. That's uncommon for places that allows you to get your own drinks.I love this place!

Our out-of-town guests loved this pet-friendly casual dining place in our neighborhood that serves simple good food. Their enthusiasm prompted us to join them for lunch. The burgers and specialty hot dogs were definitely solid. Our chili burgers and Chicago dog tasted fresh and hearty with a good mouth feel. We especially liked that they serve draft beer in frozen mugs! Judging from the stream of customers it obviously has s loyal local fan base. This space has witnessed several failed business attempts before JS. Wonderful to see it thriving, having successful grown from a humble hotdog stand into a nice cozy spot with a covered open patio adjoining a large add-on indoor dining area in the back.

I hear their hamburgers are fantastic, but my favorite is their homemade Chili. It tastes and looks just like my Mom's Chili. Only about $2 for the large size, plus soda crackers. You could add a side salad to top it off. Do try, you won't be disappointed!

I asked her to remove the innards of the bread....It was definitely better this way. Solid choice for a quick bite. The staff was nice and suggested their new sauce mixture with olive oil.

The newly remodeled McDonald's in Los Alamitos has fast service. They have a screen where you can double check your order. We like the Breakfast Platter which has pancakes, eggs, bacon/sausage, hash brown patty. But it is only served until 11:00. Also, we like their oatmeal. Service is relatively fast.
