Good as any other Subway. It is located in the Sinclair Service Station along with lots of knickknacks.
We have frozen tamales, chili and burritos (soon to have made to order burritos and warm tamales). Our Tamales have been on TV. Duff Goldman from Charm City Cakes nominated Dorothy's Homemade Tamales. We were on an episode of The Best Thing I Ever Ate (Un
We stopped in a couple of days ago on our way to the Hot Springs in Buena Vista. We were feeling just a bit peckish and my wife saw a small sign for tamales. We both thought tamales sounded good so we turned around and pulled in. KB's Kakery & Dorothy's Tamales is in a small strip mall on Hwy 285 where CO 9 turns north. The restaurant was small, just two or three small tables, its mostly a pick-up to-go place. She certainly hit a home run with this choice.(her restaurant choices are not usually so successful, CUMB!)My wife had a Red Chicken -- meaning a chicken tamale with red sauce, she just loved it. The sauce was flavorful but not to hot, the tamale itself was perfect. It had a nice amount of chicken and just the perfect amount of corn, not so thick that it was all corn but not so thin as to not get the good corn flavor. The tamale was light, not really dense at all. I had 2 Green Pork. The pork was shredded and the green sauce was fantastic, just the right amount of heat for me and great flavor. They were so good, we decided to split another Red Chicken... umm-umm good.We were so happy with our tamales, we decided to try their baked goods. They had lots of choices, lemon bars, cookies, donuts, looked like some cake on a stick, and giant cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon roll looked good but did not have any icing and since I'm all about the icing I wasn't interested. But then my wife pointed out that there was a cup of icing included for spreading or dipping. Cool... so we bought one.We took it with us to the hot springs and ate it a couple of hours later. It was good, but as often happens with individually baked cinnamon rolls, it was drier than I like them. Also, since this was Monday noon when we bought it, and most of their business this time of year is on week-ends, it could have been a day old. The flavor was good and the icing was light and delicious. In any case, from now on I'll be sticking to cinnamon rolls that are baked in batches and then purchasing one of the inside rolls. We definitely recommend KB's Kakery and Dorothy's Tamales. Next time we'll have to try some of their other baked goods.
