It is located about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Darlington, 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Durham and 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Crook at the confluence of the River Wear with its tributary the River Gaunless. My previous review gave it 4* and Dan's Castle has been our local Chinese takeaway of choice for 27 years. However our last two visits, (under new management) disappointed. Our most recent meal was so amateurish. Chicken fried rice consisted of a bed of heavily soy sauced fried rice topped with a handful of thinly sliced cooked chicken. There was no attempt to amalgamate it into the rice. The chicken and prawns were similarly underwhelming and certainly not up to the standard of cookink of the previous owners.We're sorry to write this but until ownership changes again we won't be using Dan's Castle takeaway.

Best fish and chips in North East (outside of Whitby and Scarborough). Is in Shildon which is not too far from Darlington, Bishop Auckland and Durham. Excellent value for money. Mouth watering delicious cod. It's a takeaway, not an eat in, but the food is wonderful. Highly recommend.

We ate here before going to Kynren. We dined in and were the only customers - a surprise as it was a nice little restaurant and the food and service were great. Very reasonably priced and would highly recommend

Clean and tidy but with only a couple of seats if you want to be seated. Only ever two members of staff on so when its busy there is a bit of a wait. The food is up to the usual standard of subway even though it is a tiny store

The former owners of this chippy was Beedles, and they are an award winning fish and chip establishment. the new owners have played on the trading name. Their fish and chips are average and does the job. Nothing special.

My Daughter often calls here for our lunch if I'm working from home on a Friday. There are loads of fillings to choose from if you're having a sandwich. They are freshly made with exactly what you want - the buns are always fresh - and most importantly they taste delicious and are so filling. Daughters often have baked potato and say they're also delicious. Prices are very good value for money. Service excellent and friendly. Definitely worth calling if you haven't yet tried this little gem.
