While staying at the wonderful Mathematics Institute in Oberwolfach, a group of us had weds night dinner at Hirschen. I had venison and spaezel with Logenberry sauce. Before this we were served a delicious bouch mis of a goat cheese gnocchi and ate from an excellent salad buffet ... The wine was excellent as was the apertif and my desert.
We had a good meal here. The only thing I did not like was that the compote was from a can, and not homemade. Good wine, good service. It is a restaurant in a hotel that does host big groups of tourists, when we were there it was a group of elderly dutch people who talked very loudly. I also found it strange that the staff didn't want to accept a visa card,

I think maybe we have been spoilt in Spain and Italy, as we have always found menus in English and that staff working in restaurants spoke enough english to take our order. Not the case here no english menus available and the lady who greeted us in german spoke no english. We were hungry so decided to see if I could make any sense of the German menus given to us after being shown to our table. I couldn't none of the words on the menu looked anything like the food I knew the names of in English so I had to admit I couldn't understand it when the lady returned to ask us what we wanted to order. She left and returned with a younger man who spoke some english and between us we managed to order our food. It arrived and was good and the mixed salad was tasty. We requested ice cream again for desert so not to bother that young man again as I could just make out what that was from the desert menu. Then I got the shock of my life when using my Visa card to pay. The lady very loudly Nine Visa shaking her hand, luckily I had enough euros to pay the 32 euro 70 cents bill or we could have been washing up maybe who knows. I have no idea why my Visa card was not accepted but that was the only problem we had throughout our holiday using our Visa card. The food was good, maybe a little too much salt for my taste but well worth the money so again we will recommend this restaurant but make sure you have euros if you only have a Visa card unless you like washing up lolJohn & Sue Eastbourne UK
Very good black forest cuisine. Venison, fresh trouts. All very healthy portions. Good and friendly service. Excellent Kirsch, which is what you need after a good dinner!

Had a lunch stop at this restaurant in Wolfach along the Blackforrest High Route. They have Italian Meals and Pizza but also select German food available. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and is located in the heart of the Blackforrest town.

We searched on Tripadvisor for somewhere nice to eat after visiting the Black Forest Open Air museum as we didn't want to eat at a "touristy" restaurant. After seeing the reviews we realized that this "tucked away" place was somewhere no one would ever find by accident and that it would be a beautiful place. After using google maps to get there we realized how lucky we were. Beautiful beautiful location, great food, low prices, lovely friendly staff. No English menu but the staff made a supreme effort to translate for it. I'm not giving 5 stars simply for the reason that I reserve the "5" for fine dining. This is a great place though, for both families and couples. Worth the effort to find it.

Regional â fresh â qualityThe black forest offers everything for a great kitchen and foodWe get our product from regional bakers, butchers, farmers and hunters. Only the best quality is allowed, without compromise. We are very happy to live in an envirome
We spent a week on holiday on a farm in the area this summer and dined at the Kirnbacher Hof twice during the stay. It was the best restaurant we dined at, although I must say that, although the Schwarzwald is a lovely place, do not go there for its food, which is somewhat disappointing in general. So while we had our best dinners at Kirnbacher Hof while in the area, I can't really say that the food is top notch. Still, your best bet for a good dinner. It's a friendly place too.
