Au Coq D'Or

during our stay in May the season for asparagus had just begun. In Strasbourg we had trouble finding a restaurant where we could eat this delicacy but about a 20 minute drive away a small restaurant offered asparagus as daily special for lunch. To our surprise a crowded Sunday lunch was in full swing when we entered. The restaurant was fully booked but we got a table next to the kitchen nevertheless. We noticed that the place is very popular with the locals who come for a good meal. Friendly and fast service as well. The asparagus were served with three fresh sauces and two types of ham, boiled and smoked. The amount of the middle portion was huge, almost a half kilo on one plate, generously accompanied with bread and salad. It all looked alright but I was not impressed with the quality nor the flavor of the asparagus as these were a bit overcooked, too soft and no bite. The cooked ham worked well while the smoked ham killed the subtlety of the asparagus and hollandaise sauce. Shame. I noticed that the specialty of this restaurant is frog legs, our neighbors had ordered this and it looked very attractive. A reason to return next time.

D'Stall

Reviewed By jimglas01

My partner and I attended this restaurant last month and were looking forward to good food having read various reviews on Tripadvisor. However, we were extremely disappointed on the quality of food served to us.A small overpriced portion of foie gras was served along with a bread roll suitably hard enough to be fired from a cannon. My partner had a starter of salmon served with little care and attention. For the mains, veal and rissotto were chosen, the former being overcooked and tough round the edges accompanied by vegetables which appeared to be "Chinese in style". The rissotto was underseasoned, stodgy and had a covering of large chunks of dry chicken - bascially thrown together with little care regarding presentation.Considering we were in the restaurant for about two and a half to three hours and a small amount of dishes are on offer, the quality of the food and the way it is presented is extremely poor and not worth the money.

I am writing this comment from very small room with its even smaller shower of the hotel. Because I am alone and I just stay 3 night, it is not problem. But if you choose this hotel and dont want narrow places, you should stress your wish during reservation. Positive side of the hotel is its location. It can not be better. Internet connection is perfect in my room (4 th floor).

le Basilic

In the middle of the small Village, we found this hidden gem. We were looking for an authentic restaurant, and Basilic is definitely one. We started our dinner with: Basilic salad with mozzarella and grilled ham, which was fresh and tasty. We also had Parma Pizza with prosciutto and rocket green. Our main courses were: An Alsatians baked macaroni with ham and melted cheese, a selection of 3 raviolis' filled with spinach, Gorgonzola cheese and escargot which was a delicious choice. For desert we ordered the Banana Split and cafe gourmet. Overall it is an excellent restaurant, good quality of food for moderate prices.

Hostellerie Reeb

Reviewed By MartinTC

This restaurant is a short walk from the main square in Marlenheim but worth the walk. We seemed to have visited at a quiet time in France in general (3rd week in August) but we were initially a bit unsure when Hostellerie Reeb seemed very quiet as we were staking out where to eat in the late afternoon. However, there were 3 or 4 other tables in use as we arrived that evening. Once we'd ordered food and drink, we were treated to an unexpected plate of delicious amuse-bouches including freshly baked puff pastry bites. I was keen to try the Alsatian dish choucroute - a ranges of sausages and hams served on cabbage. Sounds dull but it is very tasty but comes as an enormous plate which I couldn't finish. Service was good and attentive. Overall the meal was very good value for money.

L'Oie Gourmande

Our hotel booked us a table at this restaurant and we received a warm welcome. It is very rustic and Alsatian and the decor is very quirky with lots of antiques dolls and household memorabilia. Our waitress was fun and friendly and we had a very pleasant typically Alsatian meal.

Zum Loejelgucker

In a tiny pastoral village, where there are far more fruit trees and grape vines than people, this is a friendly and serious culinary destination. The number of foreign automobile plates and the steady stream of locals confirms that a table here is prized. The menu tends to lean towards Alsatian specialties, but there are additional choices for those with a gastronomic bent.Yes, we have had more sensational meals elsewhere, but the welcome is genuine, the service prompt and professional, and the quality and skill evidenced by the kitchen very evident. While the inside of the restaurant looks inviting, the chance to eat outside on their patio on a warm afternoon is the preferred choice.

Le Relais des Saveurs

Reviewed By Michel M

15 miles East from Strasbourg , Marlenheim is known as the first village of the wine road, i.e where the main vineyards of Alsace begin. It is also the village where my grand parents used to live. I came back there, after a long absence, in order to supervise a family meeting, with my cousins, that was planed to take place in that restaurant. At the Relais des Saveurs, end of April and first of May 2015 I enjoyed - among others – their « Tarte flambée », a dish composed of bread dough rolled out very thin which is covered with fromage blanc or creme fraiche, thinly sliced onions and lardons. It is one of the most famous specialties of the region. I was fully satisfied. However, the 2nd of May 2015, the lunch served for the 55 guests (my cousins and family) was a total failure. We were supposed to enjoy a baeckehoffe, which is a mix of sliced potatoes and onions, cubed mutton, pork and beef which have been marinated overnight in Alsatian white wine and juniper berries. We did not see any of the commonly added ingredients for flavor and color like carrots, thyme, leeks, parsley, garlic, and/or marjoram. The baeckehoffe is supposed to be slow-cooked in a sealed ceramic casserole dish. Most of us were fully disappointed because of a lack of professionalism of the chef unable to follow the recipee of a traditional alsacian dish. Therefore, if you are an individual why not stopping by ; however if you are a group of travellers visiting Alsace, just hit the ROAD…

Almost straddling the Alsatian border with Germany, you can almost see the land and the buildings change here in Marlenheim. The exterior of celebrated local restaurant Le Cerf could indeed be in either country, its flower lined walls an almost theme park

We chose the cool interior of the plush restaurant over the pretty terrace only because it was an extremely hot day. The room is beautifully wood panelled and very elegant. The lunch menu offered 5 choices per course and it was very difficult to eliminate any item! The dishes were stunning-exquisite sauces, packed with so many nuances of flavour and artistically presented. Amazing value for money.
