Reviews on European food in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa. Hiking trails and art galleries abound in Stellenbosch, but it's wine that takes center stage. More than 100 wine cellars, most open to the public, surround the oak-lined South African town, and tasting tours operate daily. Winter brings a four-day festival celebrating the local vintages. The historic town center houses the trading-post style shop Oom Samie se Winkel, the Neo-Gothic Moederkerk church, and museums dedicated to toys, military memorabilia, autos and early life on the Cape.

Situated within a security complex, this restaurant next to the wine tasting room offers in and outdoor seating overlooking the golf course. The menu,s are presented on blackboards, which change weekly. The menu is divided into starters, mains and there is a separate board fo deserts. Starters are limited, but the prawn risotto has been there for 15 years, so it is a no brainer to try. The food can be paired with wine, or you can bring your own at R65/bottle. Foolish excellent but rich and to my mind garnished on the sweet side. Winter special is worth a while.

It was a cold wintery day with a table of 13 with family and friends. There is a very extensive menu including kids menu, starters, salads, pizza, pasta, seafood, meats and a page of specials. This often makes me nervous as I know itâs difficult to execute such a big menu well but I can honestly say that every one of the adults and children thought there meal was fantastic. The portions were generous which was great as it allowed us to taste some of the other dishes and I am already planning our next trip se we can go back for more! There is also an outside seating area with jungle gym for kids which would be lovely on a sunny day.

In the lap of casual luxury, Mont Marie offers a unique food, wine and family experience in a spectacular country setting in the heart of the Blaauwklippen Valley. Using only the freshest ingredients, Chef Pieter Vlok adds authentic flavours to a variety
This restaurant has the most beautiful setting, but the meal experienced there today was disappointing and I will not return. There are no vegetarian options for main courses so I opted for the cheese ravioli from the starters section. If it wasn't for the fact that we were hosting guests I would have sent the food back immediately. There was no cheese in the ravioli, no flavour in the dish and the whole overall presentation was unappealing.

Delaire restaurant is situated at the winery and overlooks the Franschhoek valley. It offers approachable fine food with fresh and vibrant flavours. Guests are able to dine on the terrace under a canopy of pin oak trees or within the spectacular interiors
Views and landscaping are absolutely stunning, however our lunch was disappointing. Not good value for money - you can get much better quality and quantity elsewhere. I expect a lot better for a R400 main (...or a R185 salad which consisted or a few leaves, a strawberry and 4 slices of halloumi!). Out mains arrived ice cold. Wine was good - not incredible. Definitely catering to the tourist. Wont be back and wont reccomend unfortunately because those views were phenomenal.

George Jardine's relaxed, contemporary restaurant in the heart of Stellenbosch serving either a three course menu with choices, or a five course set menu.
This restaurant is really out of its class. The winter special is excellent value for money, and I would book again soon. The flavor and texture as well as the presentation makes this place a gem. Service is excellent, wine list is diverse with some very affordable wines on the menu. The ambiance is great and cozy seating with a fireplace in the background.

Relaxed dining, South African seafood, steaks, lamb, duck, venison, pizza, great wines and desserts. Caters for vegetarians, gluten free etc.
Excellent service by attentive waiter , loved the ambiance .Looked forward to the karoo lamb but rather underwhelmed therefore disappointed.Nicely presented but lamb itself warm rather than hot and potato wedges tasted like yesterdays potato warmed up .Thank you for the review. Apologies that the lamb was not hot enough. Not sure what went wrong with the pan fried potatoes - we prepare them fresh every shift. You did not raise any of this with the owner when he checked on your table? He could have corrected any issues immediately then....Please e-mail us on [email protected] to discuss this further. We hope to welcome you back soon and "wow" you with not only the ambiance and service, but our great food too.

The 6 course menu with wine, though it might look it'll fall short, it's absolutely perfect in terms of quantity and quality.Every dish left us speechless in a different way, and the wine selection that pairs it is astonishing. Attentive and friendly service. Definitely worth a go if you happen to be in Stellenbosch.
