Tomaj, Slovenian village close to the Italian border and famous for its two grand churches and its most famous son, the poet Srecko Kosovel, has only one place to eat: the Gostilna Tomaj (gostilna means cheap restaurant). But what a place! Sitting very pleasantly al fresco on and early Autumn day, we had a great menu of fantastic food presented to us by the very kind owner, who spoke also Italian and English. We had fillet steak with truffle and local baked potatoes, and it was something to die for. It was black truffle of the highest quality, grated in front of us. The price was adequate for what we had, and the memory will stay (until we go again, that is).

Very good grilled food, I like it, one of the best places in Sežana to eat something. Very recommend.

In a somewhat off the path the location, this restaurant is definitely known by locals, as they were queuing up for lunch. Offers a good selection of pizza (very good quality of ingredients), as well as many plates, with a lot of fried stuff. Suggest you come with a big hunger:)

The place is nice and not too big, specialized on meat courses (with fish and pizza options too). We had a good tartare well prepared in front of us (one portion is ok for 2) and then various meat courses, fillets, Lubjanska (nicely prepared in rolls) and the chefs meat with porcini mushrooms. A couple of cakes (ice cream and Nutella dessert) on top. The service was good and waiter funny. Price was ok (some 27 euros each, considering appetizers, one main course, wine and the spare desserts). A place to come back to.

Since 1838 in the heart of the Karst region our old house boasts more than one hundred years of tradition in catering. Our restaurant is renowned for its hand-sliced dry-cured ham and typical home-made bread, for gnocchi with young horse-meat, jota with h
We spent a lovely evening dining on the garden terrace. The food was tasty, ingredients fresh and meals well prepared. Service was welcoming, attentive, but never over bearing. The lamb cutlets with truffle potatoes were exemplary. We have a well behaved border collie dog and he was welcomed without question.Overall, a fabulous experience with fair prices.

The staff here were great-they helped with the menu (couldn't find the english version) and helped answer our questions too about the town. We just ordered pizza to go and it was ready quickly. However, there was a nice outside seating area and if we hadn't had other plans, we would have stayed to eat there. I recommend this place!

Found this place last year and came back this year. Best pizza ANYWHERE! This restaurant is always loaded, especially with Italians. The calamari is incredible too. We own a Summer home in Laže just a short drive away and we come here every chance we get!!
