family restaurant with garden and terrace. It presents some dishes traditionally prepared with modern touches. They emphasize its regional meats , rice with lobster, the highlander stew, fried calamari squid and homemade desserts . It has daily and weeken
A little hidden in the small town of Novales is this little "posada" or small hotel. I only go to the restaurant though and have never stayed there. It's a seemingly humble place but the quality of the food is excellent. The low temperature cooked rib is a must if available. Novales is a town known for its lemons so you have to try the lemon mousse made with the local lemons .

Located opposite the famous Colegiata in one of Spain's most picturesque towns, Santillana del Mar in Cantabria. Fantastic meats cooked on open wood fired grill, very well-known locally for its delicious ribs. Extremely popular with tourists also, menus i
This charming town is full of very good restaurants. Some a bit touristy but generally of high quality. For something rather different I recommend you try out Casa Cossio and sit close to the large pit fire grill watching your ribs be cooked to perfection. The menu offers good food at average prices.

On our first night (of three) in the hotel, we decided to give the restaurant a try, to see if it lived up to the standard of the room. Although the standard was good, it was not fantastic. The food was a bit of a let down, but as we were to discover in the other Paradors we stayed in, not dissimilar in style. Somewhere along the line, I was expecting vegetables, but none came. I was to discover that this was not unusual.

The cocido was delicious but the rest of the meal was uninspiring, bland and over priced (even as part of a 14 Euro meal of the day). The seafood stuffed peppers were awful. Not a recognisable ingredient (except potato). The place looks good, but it doesn't live up to the image. Not a good advertisement for Santillana.

A quick visit for lunch turned into a lovely experience. The tapas we shared were substantial and very well cooked and the bill was very reasonable. It is an excellent stop for lunch.

Asador
Reading the opinions of trip advisor we had two menú of the day which offered a good selection of choices and were execellent.Well cooked, presentation and good service.Surprise at the end of the meal was the bill as 2 menus were only 9.95 euros each. We had arrived early for lunch by Spanish standards and it proved to be the best idea as by two o´clock the place was jammed pack with people waitng for tables. Very recomendable.

Despite being in the main square of this touristy town, El Castillo seems to attract as many locals as travellers, probably because it has good service, good food and isnât overpriced. At the front it's a bar and tables for food; the back is a slightly more formal restaurant (though, as far as we could tell, the menu is the same at both ends).I imagine its worth booking or getting in early - we went fairly early (about 8pm) and it was relatively quiet, but pretty much full by the time we left. We had the menu del dia for the main but different starters; with wine and coffe it was just over 40 Euros; probably the cheapest dinner in 10 days of travelling.

Food here is average. Itâs nothing fancy nor overly exciting in terms of presentation and flavours. The sirloin beef we had was at least cooked medium rare which is how we like it. Having said that, we werenât asked how weâd like it prepared. So that was a bit of serendipity at play. The tuna and anchovy salad was uninspiring. Service was friendly and efficient.

Of the restaurants in the village this one was a little more modern than most in its approach and decor. Service was efficient. Surroundings clean and tasteful. It was quiet when we ate (8pm is so early for the Spanish!)We enjoyed the food apart from the sea bass not being fileted and there seemed to be more bones than fish, and my partnerâs steak, besides being a little rather than the requested medium, was rather tough to eat. My hake was lovely!

This restaurant was recommended in both the Lonely Planet and DK Eyewitness travel guides and lived up to the testimonies. We went for the 20 euro per head 3 course meal which included a bottle of rioja. The seafood salad starter could easily have been a main course and the roast beef (which was actually a steak was too big for the plate. All served by a very friendly couple who encouraged our efforts to order in Spanish.
