Located 45 miles (72 km) southeast of San Francisco, the city was founded in 1777 with the establishment of Mission Santa Clara de Asís, the eighth of 21 California missions. The city was later incorporated in 1852. The mission, the city, and the county are all named for Saint Clare of Assisi.

A lovely evening in a wonderful restaurant with a terrific atmosphere. The food was quite good, and the prices were reasonable. The service was very competent, and we enjoyed ourselves sitting outside in a cafe atmosphere with a ready heat lamp above if needed. Very accommodating manager squeezed us in with a reservation for eight people. Everybody enjoyed the menu, including our vegetarian and our vegan. we started with a variety of appetizers including the scallops and a spatzle with chicken dish. The jagerschnitzel was fabulous, along with sides of spatzle, red cabbage, potato salad and shishito peppers. We also ordered goulash and halibut. Excellent Hefeweizen beers and some nice red wines. Finished up sharing an Apfel strudel and the Salzburger Nockerl, a very light and tasty âsoufflé.â Great service and very nice restaurant.
