A little corner of England in the centre of the beautiful French Town of St. Yrieix offering a traditional style menu usually found in a typical English Tea Room. Scones with clotted cream, sandwiches and glorious cakes. A big speciality and extremely pop
The service was terrible we sat outside and were not offered a menu , when asking about gluten free cakes I was given one choice when I explained that I had been told they had a very good gluten free range of cakes the waitress went off to get the teas and came back after a long wait and reeled off a list of gluten free cakes so fast I only caught the word chocolate so choose that, my French friend asked after cakes and was told they had scones was not offered anything else so she had the scones. On arrival my chocolate cake was just a small square the icing was rock hard and the cake taste stale my friends scones looked dry she had one plain and one with fruit in she wasnât given a choice.Overall the visit was a great disappointment , I wanted to like this teashop but I am sorry to say I wonât be rushing back.I am so sorry you were disappointed with your visit, we try so hard to exceed everyone's expectations and feedback to date has very much reflected that. All our cakes are on display in the tea room and as a norm we recommend people come inside to see them and choose for themselves, and as you say the Gluten free offering is quite extensive so I am sorry you were not able to take advantage of that. Regarding the scones, we do usually serve one of each, plain and fruit but are happy to let people have their preferred choice if they ask and we have so many compliments about them I am astonished your friend found them dry, they are baked fresh every day. We do appreciate your comments and will take action to ensure that no such mis-understandings re-occur. I do hope you will visit us again and give us an opportunity to re-establish your confidence and trust in our establishment. Satisfying our guests is so important to us we are as disappointed as you are in not achieving that goal on this occasion.

Not as spectacular as I thought it would be when it was supposed to be number 1. Lovely front terrace but they leave all the chairs packed up, we thought it was closed.Inside very plain. For lunch there are no choices which is common in France, the evening menus looked a lot better. We had tuna and tomato pastry parcels, steak with blue cheese sauce and a choc cake for dessert. This was â¬13 per person. Food was ok but I wouldn't go back. Over rated.

Visited this quaint and friendly restaurant twice in a fortnight in June, the place is small and comfortable with an extremely friendly, helpful and happy waitress helping us to a table, and although hamstrung by a language difference, we managed to convey each other's needs adequately.A large cold beer as we reviewed the small menu on a lovely summers day. The place was quite busy but the lone staffer coped well. We ordered an amazing tasting plate as a starter which was generous and very, very tasty. The menue was mostly grills and burgers and I chose a beefy and cheesy burger which exceeded any expectation I had, a huge medium/rare pattie and a vast slice of camembert cheese slowy melting into the meat, pure decadent heaven for me. Chat potatoes on the side and an excellent carafe of local wine to accompany. On the second visit we again sampled the tasting plate, adequare for three people and I opted for another huge cheesy burger, slightly different but again a huge pattie cooked perfectly to medium rare and a vast wheel of melting Brie, so much cheese, so beautiful.I thoroghly enjiyed the cuisine, the embience, the service from an overworked young lady, the local wines, the beers and the entire experience. When next I visit France and St Yrieix La Perche I will visit La Popote as often as I can.

We were camping on the near by site and we were a bit miserable because we'd had a storm. As soon as we went in we cheered up. Nice welcome and there were a few other people in making the place feel jolly. Food was delicious and well presented. I had the confit de canard which I thought was the best I'd had. My partner had the steak which was excellent. Would recommend and visit again.

Yet another restaurant in St Yrieux destroyed by beyond hopeless service. We had walked out on another restaurant in St Yrieux, having been ignored by the waiter for too long, and arrived here just a little after 1pm for lunch. One waiter serving six other tables. She quickly gave us a table and water and the menu arrived within minutes. That was it. All the other tables were being fed and watered on a continuous basis. We were ignored. The waiter made a point, we noted, of checking all the other tables regularly but then always looked away from us. She cleared tables, replaced water bottles and delivered food continuously to tables so that most waited not between courses. After 24 minutes we got up and left. A pity. because the menu looked great.
