Newtonmore (Scottish Gaelic: Baile Ùr an t-Slèibh pronounced [ˈb̊alɪ uːr ən tlɛː] ) is a village in the Highland council area of Scotland. It has a population of about 1650. The village is only a few miles from a location that is claimed to be the exact geographical centre of Scotland. Newtonmore railway station is managed by Abellio ScotRail and is on the Highland Main Line. Newtonmore has been bypassed by the A9 since 1979.

This is a really excellent restaurant on the main street in Newtonmore in the Cairngorms. Dougie is a brilliant chef, and we had a delicious last evening in the Highlands. The food was perfectly presented and cooked, with a decent wine list and friendly service. Good value for the quality, but watch out that they only take cash. There is an ATM directly opposite, but be warned. Dougie explained the reasons for this, which are sensible, but be aware nonetheless.

Each time we visit Newtonmore and Kingussie, we visit The Glen at least once - we've never struggled to get a table, without booking.It's not fine dining, and doesn't remotely claim to be, but the food's great - unpretentious British 'pub' fare, with a few interesting local variants, including venison. Vegetarians plainly aren't just an afterthought - try the veggie haggis.Haddock and chips might seem an unexciting choice, but you'll reliably get a larger fish than anywhere else!We'll be back....

We had great service and good food. A variety of options weâre available including gluten free and vegeterian which was great! Only a small complaint would be of the temperature in the room. The door we believe was left open to air out the freshly washed carpets and it was a little frisky. But we are assuming this was unusual.

We had a wonderful evening at The Cross and look forward to returning again soon. We had a lovely table by the fire and the staff couldnât have been more helpful and friendly. I had the quail, followed by the roast halibut and finished with the cheesecake. Every mouthful was delicious. Thank you very much.
